Just go there instead and don’t be afraid to walk into doors. There’s so many. Snack. Whole meals suck and weigh you down, just try a little bit of everything and move on. Takes a minute or less to decide if you want to stay or go. Point being, when leaving the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this museums, stop at some places between you and train. You don’t have to be a “foodie” and seek it out. Whatever’s along the way. Then, cherry pick your “nice meals” with the saved money from avoiding all the trendy/modern/retail crap for the whole experience. And, people, I’m going to say it once, spend more money on your “favorite” thing, not “trying things.” You will be much happier with your dinner selections as a whole. Try local. It took me years to figure this out and eat much better now.
Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt: Express with Style
edge case scenario here but, as someone with a dietary requirement, eating when travelling is absolutely a chore. sorting my own food is a pain in the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this arse but sometimes the only way to get by I’m 100% be a little bit dramatic here. Mainly down to the fact that I’ve just got back from Salzburg where I didnt really enjoy any of the food I had and I spent more on food in 3 days than I’d spend on groceries in 2 weeks. Wasn’t supposed to sound like I refuse to spend any money whilst I’m away but eating out for every meal when you go away 1-2 times a month adds up. If we saved €50-100 a trip that literally pays for me to go on a few more trips just by being a tight ass, which to me is worth it. Fully appreciate that some people would rather spend the money and have what they would consider a better experience though.
Have you tried staying at hostels? Typically, I find hostels to be less expensive than hotels and most have a kitchen where you can cook your own meals, if you’d like. First place I like to save money is iced coffee. We usually make cold brew, put a couple of collapsible cups in the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this freezer over night for a an extra large ice cube that pops out of the cup like it would an ice cube tray and bring some syrup in a small squirty bottle that fits in our liquids bags. Love it! If you’re curious, I’ve developed a cold brew method over the past 6 years traveling full time that I feel I’ve more or less perfected: I’m a cold brew, drink it black only kind of person. The beauty of cold brew is you can brew it at room temperature without any special equipment. For this I carry:

Step by step to buy Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt
The sock gets filled with about 400g of ground beans. That gets put into the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this bladder and filled with water. It’s left to soak between 16-24 hours. when it’s done, I’ll take an empty 2L plastic bottle, attach the adapter to it and the bladder, and filter. I’ll remove the sock and squeeze out the excess. The collapsible mug I fill about 80% full with water and freeze. Then when I’m ready to drink my coffee, I pour a little on top, getting the coffee cold and melting the ice block. With this, I have delicious concentrated cold brew anywhere in the world that I can find ground beans. The beauty of cold brew is that you don’t need super high quality beans to get high quality flavor as you would with hot brews. Also, since I can brew at room temp, I don’t need to take up any fridge space with the bladder. Just chuck it in the corner and strain when done. I’d never considered using a bladder for cold brew! I’ve got a spare one kicking about somewhere I’ll definitely give that a go!
Research, research, research, and plan/book ahead. Which places have entry fees and how much? Is there a discount for booking ahead? How much time will we spend there and how much do we want to see it? For schedule planning I like to have 1 “big” thing we are seeing per day, and some smaller fill ins that are cheap or free if we have extra time. For example a historic house or castle might be $30+ for entry, we’d plan to do that first thing in the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this day and then hit a library, park, or other free attraction afterwards. We want to take our time in attractions we paid for and see as much as possible, so prioritize taking our time there. Or if we’re doing an expensive guided tour in the afternoon we might go for a walk on the beach in the morning or do brunch so we’re not rushed trying to get through a museum or gallery in only a few hours. We’d rather relax and see 90% of one museum in a day than rush to see 30% of 3, and it’s more cost effective that way if you are paying for each.
Prioritize the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this places you want to see, not what Instagram or travel top 10 lists suggest. If you don’t like modern art, skip the gallery. Do like steam engines? Look for transit and industry museums. Would you rather have expensive cocktails on a rooftop bar with a world class view, or spend just as much to taste locally produced wine with a small business owner? Plan ahead to book those experiences and decide what’s “worth it” before you’re ringing up $$$ for something that was a whim. Went to England with my partner last year, and we did the math before getting both National Trust AND English Heritage Memberships. Enough places we definitely wanted to go were included to cover the membership costs, parking was included, and we were able to discover and drop in to smaller sites without worrying about wracking up entry fees. It saved us hundreds of dollars/pounds to research ahead and get memberships.
I get the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this appeal of trying to “wing it” but it will cost more, you will miss out on things that are booked up, and you will waste time waiting in lines or getting turned away when somewhere is full. Also research ahead what you can/cannot bring and wear into a given site. Some prohibit backpacks or all bags, outside food/non water. Some water must be in clear bottles or is not allowed. Some have a dress code, especially religious sites. You don’t want to be turned away or have to throw out prohibited items after waiting in line or paying to enter. Just so you know…..National Trust for Scotland membership is a lot cheaper ( and they have a senior rate ) and you can use it everywhere in the UK.
See if there are any opportunities for free travel/museum entries etc. For example, Luxembourg had one day a week where everyone could take the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this public transit for free, so if I had a day where I had to take the bus a lot, I would leave it for that day. Or the Prado museum in Madrid had free entry on Sunday evenings, which meant a long-ass line but free entry nonetheless (next time I’ll know to go there a bit before the time when entry is free, instead of one hour before closing). One thing I noticed a lot was that people would choose a cheaper flight by default, even if that meant spending more on accommodation, in situations where saving money was more important than potentially spending more time at the destination. So instead of paying $65 for a flight on Friday, they’d get the $30 one on Wednesday and pay $150 for 2 extra nights at the hotel. I’m all for flexible traveling, but as a student on a budget I’ve been guilty of prioritizing the flight price and forgetting that I’d end up paying more money (that I didn’t have) in accommodation
i often plan ahead to see which museums offer “reciprocal” memberships & then purchase a membership at the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this cheapest option. also, i’m a regular member of a nice museum in my home city, and sometimes other museums will issue a complimentary single use reciprocal pass if you ask nicely! Best road trip food (if you can be outside) is cans of tinned fish (sardines or tuna or mackerel in olive oil are my favorite), a bottle or packets of hot sauce, and some reusable chopsticks. Not a lot of space, excellent nutrition, not an excessive amount of calories with a lot of seat time. Down side is they are smelly. I only bring or buy them if I can open and eat outside. Road trip staple for me though. (Don’t forget to drink the olive oil!) Free breakfast. If the hotel offers it, you are SET. Fill up solidly on your first meal of the day, then your lunch can be small (or non-existent). Sometimes we’d pack rolls, meat and cheese and apples/oranges from the breakfast for fast lunch while site-seeing. Then a nice dinner out is a treat and your only expense of the day.
A bar of laundry soap. Super cheap. I can pack fewer clothes and never pay laundry fees or spend precious vacay time in a laundromat. Every 2-3 days, I wash the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this small clothes in the sink with the laundry soap, roll up in a towel, step on to dry and let it set for a few minutes. Then remove, its not very wet at this point and usually dry by morning. Didn’t even know bars of laundry soap existed! Most my trips only last 2-4 days. Definitely something I’d consider for longer trips though. I would like to add check humidity of the place before deciding if hang drying will work. Stayed in Rabat, Morocco for a month and it sometimes took an entire week to dry some clothes, even in the Sun and breeze of 60-70 degree weather! Don’t buy souvenirs. I think this is sort of a one bag philosophy since we often don’t have room for them, but they save a ton of room.
Look at accommodations as a place to sleep not a place that needs to be nice. I think a lot of people over pay getting a nice hotel, or BnB. Sure you want something clean and quiet but typically you’re over charged for 5* amenities you probably won’t even use. Bakeries, groceries, and takeout are a good place to get local food, and save money. Instead of paying a ton for a sit down breakfast just grab something from a bakery and save a ton. grocery stores can offer new experiences that you wouldn’t get at a restaurant. Depending on the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this culture sometimes takeaway offerings are way cheaper. A good example of this is Athens on souvlaki row. Most the places offer takeout at a much cheaper price than sit down service. Street food is pretty similar though I’ve found some tourist areas known for street food have become more expensive than restaurants.
Avoid using personal guides, and tour groups. Typically I don’t find them to offer much extra and they cost a lot more than doing it on your own. I will say in some areas they can be nice. I used them for Egypt and felt they were able to cut through a lot of cultural tape for me. Transportation is a good area to save some money. Paying for taxis halfway across the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this city can add up. It’s good to utilize public transportation and make sure your get accommodations that fit your activities. Typically, I’ll move my lodging based on the area of the city I want to explore. It fits well w/ one bag because it’s not hard to pack all your stuff and go to different lodging. Hotels that serve breakfast. First, i don’t like doing anything before coffee, and breakfast is my biggest meal of the day when i am not travelling. So i go hard at breakfast and then save a restaurant meal for something i really want to go to or eat or experience. In many northern European countries, tap water is drinkable, for example in Germany. Tap water is the most rigorously monitored food item in Germany
Have an open mind and open schedule. I have a very flexible schedule and am willing to travel in off-season or just going to a random country based on a cheap flight. Find where the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this locals picnic. In a lot of big cities or beach towns there is usually a viewpoint where you find the locals at sunset. Even when solo I will grab some wine and put some food together to have myself a picnic and do some people watching. I always assumed that the points and miles thing was pretty much exclusive to the US, but looks like you can still save some pretty good money through supermarket points in the UK to spend on hotels, definitely something I’ll look into more! Love a bottle of wine with a picnic! Aw yeah, the US is one of the few countries where points and miles are extremely easy to acquire. The UK still has options though, you just don’t get the huge intro bonuses or top end benefits. I’m sure there are some good UK finance blogs that have crunched the numbers on the best travel reward programs.
I always eat breakfast in-house from a grocery or bakery. I also take a picnic lunch and only eat one meal out per day. For flights/ train rides that cross country borders: check the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this price on different sites. For example: if you travel from Berlin to Prague by train, the train ride might cost you like 100€ if you book via Deutsche Bahn, but like 30€ when you book the same ticket at the local Czech train-carrier. Same for flights. Chances are high you are paying more when booking you flight via some US-site than booking directly on a Spanish site. (If you travel to Switzerland / Luxembourg, might be the other way round) This isn’t exactly a tip, but one way I save money while traveling is by flying for free. Years ago I decided to switch careers and became a flight attendant. I didn’t do it for the flight benefits, but it was certainly one factor. Since my boyfriend and I don’t need to pay for flights when we travel, we don’t really spare any expense at our destination. We dine out constantly, shop, pay for attractions, always stay in hotels, and we choose Uber if public transportation is too cumbersome. Most of our travels are about a week, and we have yet to spend more than $2k total for the whole trip. When I travel alone I’m a bit more budget conscious and can always keep a week long trip below $1k easily.
I got a collapsible travel kettle last year that has earned its space in my bag. I pack that plus a silicone collapsible cup (cheap one from Walmart camping section), and a set of UCO plastic cutlery. I have food allergies so always pack a few instant meals for emergencies. I also pack tea and instant oatmeal so I don’t have to deal with people until I’m fully caffeinated and have at least a starter breakfast. Electric. It’s dual voltage as well. Search “silicone travel kettle” on Amazon. I’m a tea drinker and at least in the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this US most vacation rentals don’t have electric kettles, which boil water so much faster than stovetop and have enough capacity for two mugs of tea. Understand exchange rates and the banking system where you are traveling to (if international) some types of banks/atm networks have higher fees. Also when using a credit card (never use debit beyond getting cash) understand your card’s fees and exchange rate. From my experience it is better to have the charge go through as the local currency and let your bank handle the exchange rate. I travel with family and my kids can be picky eaters at the most inconvenient times…So IF we have a car (rental or roadtrip from home), we have a cooler (or insulated bag if flying) and some picnic materials–paper plates, plastic flatware.
Mostly it’s for saving sanity, but carrying a few staples around can save money as well. I don’t mind eating at local restaurants but pulling out an apple when I’m hungry doesn’t suck. we enjoy staying in air b n bs just slightly off the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this tourist hot spot and we’re fine taking a bus if we need to though we prefer a bit closer than that we enjoy our coffees out throughout the day — pastries and cappuccinos for us and cappuccinos or hot chocolate for our boys in Italy, London, Paris, and outlying regions are among my favorite memories and in Italy it was extremely affordable we like to grab things from the local farmer’s market and grocery store — our Airbnb in Rome was rt by a great farmer’s market and both our boys are recently of age. They chose our wine and salami along with a few other things and we enjoyed that on multiple rooftops and balconies
we aren’t usually super fancy in our restaurant taste. In Paris (and other parts of France) when the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this boys were young, we got most of our meals from boulangeries and enjoyed them on benches. We also grabbed fruit and other basics from shops to have when we were in. We ate in more restaurants in Italy but they were casual restaurants so they weren’t as expensive as they could have been though it still added up. We also enjoyed grab and go food from stands where we saw locals doing the same. I bring with me a high quality silicone bag like Stasher for food. It makes having leftovers or messy snacks much easier, without the boxiness of a take out container or Tupperware. And it can tolerate high heat (microwave, oven, near boiling).
I’ve seen that a number of people use reusable silicone bags to store, cook and eat home made dehydrated meals when backpacking. Might look into getting some if I get on with the Grab them by the Teslacles resist shirt moreover I will buy this meals. There’s a website called freshoffthegrid that had a few meals I liked the look of but I haven’t tried making any myself yet, my biggest concern is how dehydrated meat would turn out. But seems like it would be quite fun to give it a go even if I only use it for hiking. Ironically I do the opposite of this tip. I choose hotels without breakfast packages and then just go eat at the local streeteries and have breakfast there for much cheaper. But I think it depends heavily on where you are at. Totally understand why you do. It that depends on many factors. The hotel I stay at has it included n I like that particular hotel, so I make it work for me . I have done all variations- 5 star hotels / private apartments – ( too much grocery shopping to keep up w breakfast ) Apt hotel w extra cost for breakfast- I skipped it n had yogurt & coffee in my room. Went out to eat early.
