I remembered the items were all dairy products, could that be reason for higher GST if merchant had labelled them dairy on Zomato but not on Swiggy? I only see 5% GST as the rate chargeable for Zomato, Swiggy etc. At the same time GST is supposed to be charged only once to the consumer. I’m unable to figure out why Zomato will have scope to put variable GST other than 5%. If you think logistics will be only 5-8% if done in house, you can’t be farther from reality. Despite all the scale benefits, even Swiggy or Zomato cannot achieve that number. There’s something you’re missing in your math Swiggy and Zomato need to also run “discounts” like Swiggy One and Zomato Gold for their consumers. This means free deliveries, the price for these is evened out by their high commissions. This is why even Swiggy and Zomato are not able to reach those numbers. They have more functionality than just moving food. From a standpoint of a restaurant transporting it’s product from point A to B, it should not take more than 5-8% per order for the restaurant. (At max 10% if your net order value is low)

Everyone from consumer side talks about inflated & added prices. But what no one is talking about is the God First Family Second Then Los Angeles Chargers Shirt in other words I will buy this quality of food. I sit at the restaurant and order a regular dish, it takes restaurant 10-15 minutes to serve me that dish hot and freshly cooked. I physically order food at restaurant and ask for take away, it takes 10-15 minutes for regular dish to be given. Now assuming this restaurant is within 3 km of travel distance. Without traffic it would take 10 minutes for me to reach it and 10 minutes more to come back in a personal vehicle. But with Swiggy, it takes at least 40 minutes for order to reach home in same distance. So despite paying more rates, I am not getting the quality of food that restaurants intend to serve. Even in case of take away, I am getting it delivered by difference of additional 15 minutes minimum. I did this, I physically took orders from restaurants as take away. The heat was retained more than what Swiggy delivers. Tried it with Pizza, Gravies, Naan/Rotis and many more. Update: I stay in Pune’s prime area with lots of restaurants around. The take away I mentioned is done on bike, Activa. Take the same example in like Bangalore. 3 kms can mean 20-30 mins of travel. Especially if you add time to find parking. So a 1 hour round trip, with about 70 to 80 Rs of petrol burnt. All for a Dosa costing 100 Rs? And especially because most “cheap” places don’t have a great place to sit.
