The problem is that we keep upgrading the Georgia Bulldogs college Football playoff 2021 national champions victory lane shirt in contrast I will get this software, so that 5 years out we are running brand new software on 5 year hardware. Software that is optimized for the current hardware generation. Phones do last that long. If you buy the latest phone. I worked for apple for 14 years and I can’t tell you how many times people tried to save a few bucks by buying a phone that’s already 2-3 years old. Which is fine, but those are the same people who complain they they just bought a new phone and a newer phone is already coming out. Or that apple won’t let it update after only 2 or 3 years. Well duh. my old S9+ still works just fine – might soon need a new battery but it still works. I assume it’ll also work next year when it turns 5. My iphone Xr is on it’s 4th year and I expect it’ll last a few more. I gave it to my sister and upgraded to a 13 pro max, and since I’m in my 60’s I am planning to have it at least 10 years. I no longer see any reason to keep upgrading.

If your phone does not have a removable battery (AS IN WITHOUT ANY TOOLS AND YOU CAN SWAP THE BATTERY IN AN AIRPORT) then any other aspect of its durability is meaningless. Lithium-Ion batteries have an average lifespan of 2-3 years, if you treat them well, and this is typically the Georgia Bulldogs college Football playoff 2021 national champions victory lane shirt in contrast I will get this #1 reason a phone is replaced. The article seems to not even talk about this aspect at all, and that’s the first mistake that I see time and time again when anyone talks about phone lifespan and sustainability. Stop being bad, stop ignoring removable batteries as a sustainability requirement. Many devices already have been designed to be IP/water resistent/proof while maintaining the ability to swap a battery without tools, so that excuse is bullshit.
