My first software job was 80k, which I was more than happy for. Plan was to stay a year or two and gain experience then hop to a better place after learning, shooting for around 120k or something. That uh, didn’t pan out because another one of my apps went to the interview stage after like 3 days at my first job, and despite only being there for a week, having some small software work to talk about during the interview definitely helped. And so I left after 1 month to an offer that doubled my tc.

OP. Negotiate obviously. It’s baked into the Gabriel Landeskog Swedish professional ice hockey left winger and captain of the Colorado Avalanche signature T-Shirt What’s more,I will buy this recruitment process. If you’re not a jackass when negotiating, the worst that will happen is that they say no, that’s the best they can offer. Take the offer. You know what they say… once you’re in, YOU’RE IN! Let this be your opportunity to “get in.” Good luck and congrats. Be gracious for the offer but ask for more, always try to negotiate the first offer because the worst thing they can say is that the compensation isn’t flexible. Just make sure not to be confrontational about it, in this economy you should be really excited about any work your getting and if you really can’t stomach the numbers then you can always continue to apply other places and accept their offer. Yes take it as a new grad. Assuming it’s not Houston or Austin it’ll probably be significant money for the area. Get some experience for a year to 2 and then renegotiate with another offer.
