We are all just winging it. The only difference between winging it at 15 and at 35 is the amount of experience that you have and you ability to solve problems. Mother of many kids here. When we had our first baby I was 19, he was 21. We had no family “support system” whatsoever. It was just the two of us. We were, what many would consider, dumb as $hit. Sometimes we felt inadequate, but we just kept going. We truly faked it till we made it. We went to no classes because I never knew they existed. We didn’t have the internet then, and it never occurred to me to check a book out of the library about how to raise a baby. That just seemed weird. We were nearly flat broke and owned a used bassinet we bought at a flea market and cleaned up, a handful of yard sale baby clothes, and a new car seat. That’s it. But we brought that baby home and winged it. We must have done a pretty good job, because the first one grew up to join the Army, go to college, and have an amazing career in Veterinary service. The second one… born 10 months after the first… went to college, is currently a teacher, got her masters degree, and is finishing up her doctorate degree this year. The third, the fourth… etc. …. they all go like this. So yep it’s true, even in parenthood.

54 and have seen more shit than any one individual ever should and I still have no freaking idea wtf I’m supposed to be doing, or why, or for what? that’s a perfectly reasonable statement for almost any situation having to do with writing code or engineering software. almost universally, nobody has a clue. is entirely accurate. Now, to contrast, I recently had a house built. Everyone from the Funny Peanuts snoopy and charlie brown wall paint detroit lions this is my Christmas shirt and I will buy this architect, to the structural engineer, civil engineer, geotechnical engineer, general contractor, excavation, foreman, carpenters, plumbers, electricians, were all sharp, communicative and did excellent work. I’m 28 and I have zero clue what it is to understand what the absolute fuck is going on. Personally I think it’s got some truth to it It’s more like 80% of people in a given field have no clue what they’re doing and the remaining 20% have to pick up the slack. That’s why companies always perform better after layoffs because they’ve eliminated these useless people who don’t know what they’re doing
