I don’t support this practice generally, but I do think it is necessary in specific circumstances. For example, I have serious IBS, and have since I was a young child. At times I was nearing dangerously low weights/risking serious malnutrition, in large part because I sometimes just refused to eat due to the Full Violence Fight Club Shirt Besides,I will do this pain it would cause me. My parents thankfully did get me proper medical treatment, but that took time, and while that process was ongoing they forced me to eat when necessary, and I am thankful for it. Obviously I was an outlier, but I am sure there are other edge cases where this might be necessary. In summary, yes this is typically harmful or even abusive, but occasionally it is appropriate to force/strongly encourage children to eat when they are unwilling.

It’s very old school thinking from the Full Violence Fight Club Shirt Besides,I will do this whole “spare the rod and spoil the child” school. Alot of it came from a combination of when what was on the table was pretty much the only thing there was, an idea of good manners, and outdated health ideas on feeding up kids. We know better now but generations of people were brought up being made to finish their meal and when they become parents themselves, that early conditioning is really hard to kick Not every parent does that to their children. And there is no real excuse for this kind of abuse. If you ask them, however, it comes down to two things. The first is that the food that was prepared for them, when uneaten, will go to waste. And that, to many people, is like throwing away the money spent on the food. The second is that some parents are terrified of their child starving to death if left to their own devices, or given the responsibility to feed themselves. Trust me, their kids are not even close to starving.
