Because I promise it doesn’t. Also if anyone ever uses “net worth” to describe anyone with student loan debt they’re arguing in bad faith. If net worth was an accurate figure of someone’s equity then I promise they aren’t concerned with student debt because they probably don’t have any. Fuck off with this shit. I’m okay with paying some student loans off, like lawyers who became public defenders or others who became beneficial to society, but if you had no end game in mind when you got your degree, that should be a debt you need to repay. Most of that net worth is likely increased value of their home. That doesn’t mean they have enough income to survive, and aren’t drowning in debt. Yeah, I want some fucking debt relief because the concept of owning a home or being a parent is so far and alien to me that they might as well exist in other dimensions.

Millennial here who is better paid than most of my friends. I make half that and do not own a house. I have a 14 year old car and no other assets. Maybe $10k in a 401k that is constantly losing money? This is a stupid example. Few of us have property who are benefitting from forgiveness- Most have worked 10+ years already for government, education or nonprofits making 35- 50k and have already paid our principal and then some.
