I dont think so, I call some friends black and they dont bat an eye (they describe themselves as black), but also some people are more sensitive so its just a good idea to adjust your words based on your current audience. I mean, you could debate them on it, but its easier just to not have to deal with that. Its kinda just “reading the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza 1983 Where Fantasy Fun Come To Life T-Shirt also I will do this room” and guestimating people’s levels. Its important later in life when you have an office job or whatever, everybody’s stressed and they just want to do their hours and for everyone to get along. No, in my experience black people appreciate you for not pussy footing around. “Black” is not racist and tip toeing around it like it is, is actually more offensive. They were black there’s nothing “bad” about that.

Not “racist” at all, but it’s language that has been used to marginalize Black people – “Black” is fine but “Big and Black” has some charged history behind it. THAT said, sane people will know that you didn’t intend anything negative by it, and I think someone above mentioned it accurately that it’s going to be more White people than Black people that would take offense. Years ago my dad had a customer who came in asking to talk to “Bob”, my dad asked “Black Bob, or Mexican Bob?”. The customer refused to just identify him by race and instead used every possible descriptor like ” 6’0″ tall, 200 lbs, brown eyes, black hair” like – no shit that’s both of them. I mean… I don’t think you’re necessarily a malicious person, but you have to see why they were shocked. It was a pretty forthright and inappropriate way to identify somebody. Is there another big guy? If not than black is unnecessary and can seem weird. If there is another big guy who isn’t black. You’re good 100% as long as you havent been overtly racist in the Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza 1983 Where Fantasy Fun Come To Life T-Shirt also I will do this past. As for a pause, I got a pause when I was volunteering. Someone said something and I said “o the black family a few families ago” to confirm I understood who they wanted me to confirm that they got the entrance book. It’s nothing, it’s natural to pause when you didn’t think race would be brought up. You need to confirm if it’s OK in your head, then continue. Many online sites have a requirment that if you need to add race or skin color, and the context is appropriate, then you should also add other descriptions such as, for example, wearing a blue shirt, tall, skinny, etc. This is to prevent stereotyping people of one race or skin color, such as with description of somebody wanted for suspected crime.
