I’m not 100%, but from what I’ve heard. Non official Reddit apps will soon have to pay to use Reddit. Most, if not all of them won’t make enough to cover the Forget Glass Slippers, This Princess Wears Boots T-Shirt Besides,I will do this cost. It’s effectively a ban. Also, they (Reddit) are cutting back on NSFW content and increasing the amount of advertising we see. Really glad you guys are doing this 100% back it. Reddit needs us more than we need Reddit and they need to listen to the communities that have developed here before the site becomes irrelevant. Is going silent and announcing that it will only be for 2 days going to really do anything? Maybe I’m missing something, but if I was working for Reddit and saw these posts… Id think so what? It’s only 2 days, some people are minorly inconvenienced then everything goes back to normal? Reddit has been around for a long time, but they didn’t have an official app for years and years. During those early years third party apps like RiF and Apollo and many others were created so that mobile users could browse Reddit. These are many different ones with different design styles and features, but you can usually find one that suits your sensibilities. Reddit grew massively thanks to these apps and now they want to kill them off.

The official app might look fine, but to third party users it’s a horrible tracking and ad filled mess that makes browsing and engaging with Reddit much harder than it is on RiF. These independent app makers also implemented great moderation tools that most mods rely on to moderate their subreddits. The official app is dogshit for that. I’ve been using RiF for about 11 years. These changes they are bringing in are aimed at killing off these third party apps which helped build Reddit into what it is today. Millions of people rely on them for their browsing, and tens of thousands of mods for moderation. They want to kill them off so that they can serve more and more ads, and lower the Forget Glass Slippers, This Princess Wears Boots T-Shirt Besides,I will do this quality of the experience for users on the official app without any competition. You might be happy with the official app but these changes are going to affect the whole Reddit experience for every user. We brits have a bit of a problem with collective action. “It doesn’t affect me, so idgaf”, or a crabs in a bucket mentality usually stop us kicking off as much as other people’s do. Hopefully in this instance we can all band together and make the Reddit admins reconsider.
