I’m a funeral director, and a couple of months ago I took care of a lady whose son just straight up ghosted the Football Washington Team Wtf Christmas shirt in contrast I will get this nursing home and, subsequently, the funeral home as well. We had to ask the government to step in and take over her estate and direct her disposition. I genuinely don’t know if her son is even aware that she died. I dont think everyone should have kids, it’s perfectly valid to not want to. That being said, I have never experienced a love like I have for my children, it’s like nothing else. It also feels like a purpose in life that matters. But those are necessarily cons of not having kids, just experiences some people opt out of. I love my kids more than anything, would trade them for the world, but I fucking hate the assumption that you should have kids, just cos you should have kids.

I think people just feel that incredibly powerful emotional connection and want other people to feel it too. The flip side is that it comes with Massive responsibility and pressure, which definitely isn’t for everyone. Bottom line though, don’t push your experiences on other people. They have a completely different life path than you and you can’t know anyone well enough to know if something that big is right for them. Share your feelings about parenting if you want, but do it in a way that doesn’t push your feelings onto others. Honestly it’s more convincing to just express your happiness about a choice without trying to pull others into what worked for you. This applies generally to any passion you have in life. People do this with romantic love, too — I have a few friends who have never had a serious relationship or romantic love, and I wish they would know how rewarding it is!
