Most commentators here have missed another crucial point, aside from the Floral design jessica chastain shirt in addition I really love this “now it affected me I care about it” part. He clearly states he’s still Conservative and will stick to all his other Conservatives beliefs, which makes it clear that he hasn’t learned anything about empathy or humanity at large, just this one narrow, single issue that affected him, in complete isolation from all other issues on the Conservative agenda. I’ve got no more fucks to give. If you only care about things after they affect you. Then you are a shit person. This is why I can’t stand Republicans. They only care about things that directly affect them and if something doesn’t, they just don’t give a single fuck. Still Conservative, though. Because while conservatives were totally wrong about this one issue, it’s perfectly sensible to think they’re still right about all the others.

I read that as ” I still hate the Floral design jessica chastain shirt in addition I really love this gays/non whites and poor people, but I now know this particular issue affects me so I’m changing that view”. His wife got raped, but he’s still not black, gay, trans, a minority, an immigrant (well, not according to him, because he’s an idiot that doesn’t understand history), non-christian and so on. Turn him black for a month and watch him lose his mind over how he’s treated, including by police. Bet he’s still all “blue lives matter” now. Wishful thinking that they’ll change their mind if it’s their kid that’s gay. They very often don’t and just tell the kid not to be gay. It works as well as you would expect. “The only moral abortion is my abortion.” But in fairness he’s gone slightly beyond that. He’s so close to discovering empathy in general not just for rape victims but can’t quite make the leap. The party of “It’s my right to freely jump off of tall bridges if I want to” realizing that perhaps investing in a Bungee cord isn’t a sign of weakness just after going SPLAT! “Vote against the majority of my beliefs”. So he’s still a complete and utter asshole. He just changed his mind about one issue that affected him personally. While I genuinely have sympathy for what they’ve gone through, the fact that they’re still conservatives after this is itself testimony to the fact that they’re physically incapable of becoming decent people considerate of others.
