As someone who used to use a razor and now uses an iPhone, there was a good reason you upgraded as often as you could. Leaps and bounds in the Flight Instructor Shirt it is in the first place but capabilities of a phone every year. As the market matures people will naturally stop upgrading as often. I know I have. I’m still using my iPhone 7 and it has been dropped quite a bit with no cracks, and it still gets the job done for me. My Samsung Galaxy S1, S3, S5, Note 4, S7 Plus, S9 Plus, S20 Ultra and S22 Ultra are all literally in perfect working order. It’s like the first light bulbs. There are bulbs from decades ago still running today. You can’t buy more light bulbs if they don’t die. Considering they’re 1100 dollars retail yes they should be. That’s legit the price of a laptop. That would last a decade. I’m still using my iPhone 7plus and all I’ve had to do in the 6 years that I’ve owned it is replace the battery last year. Still works perfectly. Why, when they know most people barely make it to the end of their 2 year agreements before they want the new shiny. The mobile companies have the masses pegged and addicted to continuously buy new shit. They last 5 years easily if you take care of it. People just like the better camera / status symbol that is a new phone, especially IPhones.

As someone who works in this industry (think national carrier) and directly with both producers and consumers, I can attest that they absolutely last 5 years. What people are falling victim to is their own ignorance. They’ll get an entirely new phone because their charging port is full of lint, or they got logged out of their facebook. I’m not super techy, but my layman understanding is that it’s difficult because of the Flight Instructor Shirt it is in the first place but CPU changing so often, and mobile gaming being such a huge market. Maybe we should change the way phones work, sell a “shell” and buy pieces like a computer tower, audio starting to go? Browse new audio hardware. Slow? Look for a new processor. They are though? Samsung supports their phones with software updates for 4 years and security updates for 5 (or is it 6?). This is why I got a Pixel 6. 5 years of guaranteed security updates (but from the date it first launched in Oct 2021). Well it depends if you want to stick on something that barely usable. I’ve used mine for 4 years already and it’s the most $180 well spent ever Phones do. They intentionally kill the battery because they can get away with it. If it were the phone that might be different.
