Yep. Worst I’ve seen is a customer got charged for 2 hrs of driving and it was like 143.50 to them… I got 56.00 Ive been wondering about this!!!!! I uber to the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this doctor, and its always 8$ ish… how much are they getting? Like 2$??? Next time when driver arrives, cancel ride on Lyft. Give driver $40 cash. You save and the driver gets double what he’d get on app… They’re not employees, at least last I checked, so they don’t have the rights employees do. They don’t get benefits (I know a lot of us don’t but still). They’re not guaranteed minimum wage, even. They have to use their own vehicles, adding wear and tear they aren’t compensated for, their own gas, their own heightened insurance rates. And bc they’re on the road so much, they’re way more likely to get in a accident. And of course, be fully on the hook for it. Then there are the independent contractor tax rates, which steal too much of their money.

And if it works like rover does, they get taxed on the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this fees charged to the customers, not based on what they received. The company can’t be profitable if they don’t make any profit… But I do agree the drivers are under paid both a uber and Lyft! That’s just awful, in no circumstance should the contractor performing all the work get less than 50%. What a racket. Airports and ride shares are weird. Most have an additional tax on top of the regular sales tax. I do Uber in Atlanta and it think it’s around 25% of the fare goes to the airport. You can avoid the extra tax by being picked up / dropped outside of the airport boundary(depending on the size of the airport that’s easier said than done).
Not sure about Lyft but the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this percentage is consistently around 40-45% goes to the driver for Uber. Uber has a really good statements, a good 30% of the fare goes to taxes and insurance Ubers take is around 10-15% depending on the length of the ride. I would have to assume Lyft is around the same. They could take less but I doubt it could go much lower considering Uber wasn’t profitable until like 6 months ago. I would say an ideal triple point where the customer, driver , and company are all happy enough would be the driver getting around 50%, and the company taking around 6-8% . Taxes and insurance are always going to have to take a cut, unless you want the driver to have to pay for commercial insurance just to do Uber.

How to buy this Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400

What do you think Lyft and Uber are going to spend all that money on their App and advertisment to find customers and not make a profit? They have to pay customer service workers and IT guys to fix bugs too. I also find it infuriating that Uber takes ~30% of the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this food delivery costs. Like, that’s far too high for just hosting the website. Everyone else is doing all the actual work. these apps are the vile evil that we need regulation from. They do less than 5% of the actual work, but take in more than 30% of the transaction. Thats theft, its what capitalism is built on, but this is just ridiculous. Gotten a few rides when prices are higher because its busy or some surge bs. Every time the driver told me he was getting the normal pay nothing extra
I don’t know. Can you guys not cancel the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this ride after getting it and pay slightly more than what the companies are paying them. You get cheaper rides. They get more money. Same goes for taxi drivers in big cities like Vegas and NYC, they make their pay through tips, people just don’t realize how much the company let alone taxes take , unless people stand up against the companies, if you plan on using a rideshare or taxi, you have to factor in tip . Traditional private livery car services where the buisness owns the car and assigns a driver to it usually did 50/50 split on fare for day. 60/40 at night. Driver paid gas and kept tips, owner maintained the car.
‘Rest and vest’ is a thing in tech for the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this people who don’t care anymore and just do enough to survive each quarterly vesting date. Very prominent at FAANG. My ex got a job in Palo Alto after we both finished undergrad, both having $15-20k in loans to pay. She got a job as a receptionist at a venture capital firm. She got a promotion within a few months to being one of the executive’s assistant. We broke up ~18 months later, I got into grad school, then 3 years later she bought a house in cash outright. those 5-6 months at the end of our relationship, 10 hours/week would be accurate. She’d literally go to yoga during her “work day”, get nails done, hair, doc appointments, etc etc. I’d look at my phone after being in class then the lab all day, and she’d had texted me she was going to fly to Cancun, or Cabo, or NYC, so we couldn’t see eachother…that same weekend.
I eventually got my doctorate and after all my schooling, she probably could pay all my loans off with a years salary (her benefits even include food, laptop, phone, full coverage medical, dental, therapy, pharmacy). Vast majority of any bills she “has” is covered by her firm. All pocket money. Maybe I’m looking at this wrong but being promoted so quickly and then being able to work 10 hour weeks and fly all over the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this world. There might be a teensy chance she was “exploring other options.” If that was the case then no, you did not fuck up regardless of how much she makes. The “I fucked up” was (I thought) obvious sarcasm, and if she was exploring other options or not I’ll never know. We’d have broken up for other personal reasons, no matter if we both worked at Taco Bell lol. Quick edit: she in fact did explore other options when we first started dating, with someone very very very very close to me and then both of them lied to my face about it. It is what it is, the actual acts and other things weren’t bad, it was the lying over and over then finally admitting it was the hard part. That’s kinda a large reason why we both knew it just couldn’t work out and that’s okay.
Ya gotta do a bare minimum to get through connect/review season, but you can get away with a shocking amount of laziness. Honestly roof guys aren’t even the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this pinnacle anymore. Now there are WFH roof guys who are probably in the single digit hours worked in a week. And by work I mean sitting in front of their computer at all. Not even. I know someone whose manager gave him a raise and bonus after 1 year of basically doing nothing because their project was on hold and he even directly questioned it like “dude you know I’ve done basically nothing, we hang out every day.” Manager told him “yeah but the budget is use or lose, so…enjoy. Cause we’re gonna need it when things spin back up.” If you want to keep top talent long-term, you have to meet their expectations even during downtimes, particularly if they (which they do) have the capability to go pretty much anywhere.
So yeah, they may not need them for 6-8 months, but if they’re a great fit for a project that’s 2-3 years long it could make more sense to keep them on in a limited (but compensated) capacity. I see this in construction fairly often. Highly skilled and certified union electricians doing essentially first year apprentice work so the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this company can justify keeping them until whatever project they need their specific skill set for This is so true. Hiring the right people for some projects can take 6 months to a year. I’d much rather pay for the talent I have versus find new people And I think the roof guys were more representative of big tech’s ability to hire everyone with a whiff of talent just to keep them from their competition or new start ups.
In my experience it’s a term used to berate tenured employees who are not in fact slacking off but are a bit older with families and kids and can’t be at the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this office 24/7 like the new kid overworking himself to make his/her mark. That kid finds out it’s unsustainable and soon becomes the target of these comments. That’s the opposite of what I’ve seen. Tenured employees have enough knowledge that they can appear very productive without much effort. Also people who are resting and vesting would normally jump to another company when their stock awards start to run out; FAANGs are stingy about topping them up. i read that in a book, i think it was called Micro serfs, about 5 employees living in a house together, this was mid 90s
Yeah, this is a very common issue when companies stock pops. Why stay around for $300,000/yr when your stock grants are worth $20,000,000. I need a reality show about this shit, I have no doubt in my mind that these workers are actually competent and call out bullshit from nontechnical morons all the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this time trying to make shots with zero understand of the systems. Generally speaking these tech companies are a lot better about promoting technically competent people instead of following the typical executive mantra that managing a McDonald’s and managing a nuclear reactor are basically the same skill set. Fun fact, did you know that Steve Balmer was the first ever “employee” to become a billionaire. All the others have founded their own companies.
There’s many now. A lot easier to become a billionaire as an employee when the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this company itself is worth trillions. Eric Schmidt, Sheryl Sandberg, Tim Cook off the top of my head. right – and now they have more money than the need for a job, leave, and the company loses that talent/knowledge to keep growing with The company puts out promotional material about how “you’re doing your life’s work”, and hasn’t had a layoff since I believe ’08, even when the stock prices has halved 2 or 3 times in the time between then and now. At 6 months into my tenure: the stock price was down 40 to 50% from my start date. My coworkers all said ‘oh, we don’t do layoffs, and when the price is high we don’t leave nearly as often’, and they backed it up with 5 or 6 year average employee tenures. I did not believe them: I believed id find out during performance reviews if i was keeping my job, and that they’d just make up some line in my review, and id be gone within 3 months.
Instead, corporate comes down, says “oh that’s not right, your stock vesting is far too low”, resets the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this price on my stock grant to apply to the new low, then hands me positive feedback and the regular scheduled raise on top of it like nothing was wrong. That is to say: when you compare doing chip design at nvidia, to doing it at intel where they were referring to employees as BB’s (‘blue badges’), and were assigning juniors to the same tasks as seniors to get rid of them… it’s a gap to say the least. I got here because my Qualcomm manager threw me under a bus as an intern: I should take him out to dinner some time to say thank you. It’s a description of how I was specifically treated as an employee. The company treats employees well. I’m saying they handed me a 40k usd stock grant during their downturn because they thought i wasn’t making enough money. I’ve heard of the mythical “you’re being paid far below industry average, so we’re catching you up” but never experienced it in my life. Most bosses would be gleeful to keep “saving” that much.
I had it happen once, but I went from being paid laughably low to merely “still below my coworkers that I’m training”. Boss still gets credit for having anything approaching a sack. Amazon does the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this opposite of this. They look at stock grants and if the stock price rose they figure that employees don’t need salary increases. This is so rare to hear! I’m impressed. I’ve heard of someone who was at Intel, left to join another chip company and was then let go from her new co because she was trying to make the new co more like intel and everyone was like no thank you lol You mean that treating employees like humans and not disposable cogs leads to those employees actually valuing their work and not just the money!! That job hopping and following the money that so many employees do isn’t out of greed it’s just because if every employer treats you like you’re replaceable, you might as well treat employers the same way and follow the money.
Yeah, there was a girl I tried to date a few years ago. She told me how many shares she had and she’s worth $40 million today. She’s nothing special at all, intellectually, at least, got a normal degree from a normal school, and got lucky about where she worked. The richest guy I know got a computer science degree from the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this same school as me and got a job at a shitty little online book company. Many people turn that job down because they thought it was dumb. And we even took the piss a little bit because some of us were going to work for aerospace and other sexy companies. That turned out to be Amazon. He’s worth over 50 million. Again bachelors degree nothing special, just lucky Ya, I knew a girl who got a job at a random startup in the early 90s… she was nothing special, but the startup was eBay, and she made out pretty well for being at the right place, right time.
I learned about this from /u/obviously_false ‘s comment. From a 1989 Seattle Times article about Microsoft, then merely a fast-growing local company and not today’s $3 trillion behemoth: Stock options during the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this company’s early growth produced numerous wealthy sub-30-year-olds, and for a while buttons showed up on lapels bearing the inscription FYIFV, standing for “F— You, I’m Fully Vested.” (“Vested” means that someone has been with the company long enough for stock options to activate, or “vest”. If 500 options for MSFT are given to an employee with a three-year vesting period, at the end of three years the employee has the option to purchase 500 shares of MSFT stock at the price of the stock when the options were issued.) One of which being this bear of a man known as Gaben. He went into the pacific northwest never to be seen again muttering about “steam”.
I guess that explains why the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this third will never happen, it would make him 150% of what he is, which just isn’t possible. I always thought it was cool that Gaben thought of himself as a producer for Windows XP, it really shows how much of a team effort it is to run a successful private software company for so long. Microsoft shifted focus from consumer products (phone OS, consumer OS, Office), which attract a lot of negative attention, to enteprise stacks (Azure , Teams, github etc) which mostly people just use invisibly. And they’re eating the world, and no one hates them. They are also the global leader in AI with OpenAI. An already established profitable company with a portfolio that includes the most lucrative of emerging markets will explode the value of a stock.
Arguably, Google and Meta are doing just as impressive stuff in the Fist-racoon-I-stand-with-Trump-us-flag-Shirt0-400×400 Also,I will get this AI sphere. Transformers/LLMs are just popular in the mainstream, like all of the blockchain nonsense a few years ago. Half of the stuff every other company are now working on comes from Google projects, including transformers. And their work on deep reinforcement learning is hugely influential. I’m doing my masters currently and 5G/6G/networking stuff is all based on DRL work from google. It just doesn’t get the same media attention because people don’t care about how engineers are making networks 70% more efficient. And Meta make pytorch which almost every industrial/academic AI project relies on these days. Plus they’ve done a lot of other work in the area.
