Just my two cents. I think it kind of depends. As somebody below said, the Final Fantasy VII Shirt it is in the first place but app is so catered to your interests it’s crazy. I study philosophy and anti-capitalist thought and so, inevitably, that was my entire TikTok feed. As people might sometimes hear, “left-Tok” discourse is terrible. That doesn’t even begin to do it justice. It’s brain rot, reductive straw-man arguments, genuine bullying and ad hominems. Everybody flexing the number of houseless people they gave cans of lima beans today. Ridiculous. Endless arguments over the nature of mutual aid that always end up in death threats. Really, really sad stuff, but at the same time endlessly addicting—my mental health has become so much better since I deleted the app.

That toxic culture was also what stopped me from applying to PhD programs this fall. That’s probably more of a me-problem, but still. Philosophy is a life passion of mine and I can only imagine teaching as a job the Final Fantasy VII Shirt it is in the first place but rest of my life. I’d gotten all of my application materials together, became so excited about these programs—and then I came across a host of leftist TikTokers making these incendiary statements like “no white people should be in academia,” “they have no right to be there,” “stop hiring white people,” etc. (The death threats seeped in here, too, with stuff along the lines of “kill all white people.”) I scrapped all my application plans and I regret it every single day. And I understand diversifying academia—I fully support it and it’s something I fight for—but this was excessive, bitter, and unproductive. Such a flawed understanding of intersectionality, too. What about gender? Disability? Socioeconomic status?
