Holy moly, you’ve got experience it sounds like. I’ll make sure to note a lot of this. You’ve named so many places that I specifically want to go to. Have you ever had times where you got very complacent with where you were and stayed longer than normal? Or do you advise to just keep jumping to the FEW This is my counterparty shirt What’s more,I will buy this next place? Never place a time limit! If you find a place you really like, enjoy and can afford, stay as long as you feel that way. If your budget gets tight, rethink and rework the next stop or skip it altogether. Traveling is as much about “seeing stuff” as it is about meeting people, gathering experiences, sharing them, and making new friends. A bad experience can turn positive through interaction with locals, an impression of a place can turn negative if you only go sightseeing or don’t stay long enough to experience the culture of a place you really like. You will probably find you are planning a far too ambitious itinerary; from what you wrote, you will spend far too much time getting from place to place. Air travel especially – everywhere these days – is fraught with delays and cancellations which equal unforeseen delays and expenses, so avoid it wherever there is an alternative, just as you may want to work on getting over your aversion to “vehicles” (or, as we call it, land-based travel) – not just to conserve funds, but also (and primarily) to experience local culture, which is far more important. As an American traveling, also make sure you have an excellent travel health policy – you may get sick from various things like dirty water and local bugs, so be able to see a doctor with a health insurance policy and not presume you can take advantage of local healthcare for free (like Europeans can). Finally, don’t listen to people who tell you to change money everywhere at bureau de change places or banks. Use your home-based ATM card to make local withdrawals in the country currency at each stop and never accept the “convert now” option at an ATM anywhere – always the worst exchange rates where that’s offered. Finally, in many places, if you see something you want to buy (as souvenir, present for someone, or just something you want for yourself, do not tell yourself you can “get it later or somewhere else” – very frequently you will never see another of whatever it is anywhere else. Make sure to take crap loads of pictures everywhere of anything that fascinates you. You’re making memories and photos are priceless in remembering everything later on. Have a great time, use common sense (rule no. 1 is always if it seems too good to be true, it is) and be prepared to greet delays, cancellations, not being able to follow a particular day’s plan as you had hoped to lightheartedly. Flexibility and embracing the unexpected is key. Also, never fall into the “I’m an American, you can’t do that to me” trap – if you get in serious trouble, the local US embassy or consulate will in 99 percent of cases prove as useful as a box of hair. Good luck, safe travels and have a wonderful time!
