And a time comparison. If I’m stuck at work all day trying to make more money to afford to eat healthier I lost out on time to spend 4 hours cooking a healthy meal. Make it stop How much are apples, watermelon, lettuce, potatoes, oranges, etc? All around same cost as junk food such as a bag of doritos. Blows my mind how many calories you can get for a few bucks at McDonald’s or gas stations. No quality calorie.. I mean, realistically you can get lower-calorie crap at Starbucks, like their cold foam drinks. I get those on the Father’s Day Best Dad Clemson Tigers Ever Shirt also I will do this rare occasion we go out of town to a place with a Starbucks. They’re fine. And you could go Coke Zero, which honestly is my immortal beloved. I don’t know what the fuck that is on the plate. At first I thought it was a seasoned chicken tenderloin but maybe it’s some kind of bread? It’s pretty low-res. And the thing in the bag? These old eyes aren’t doing me any favors, I guess. Serious response- I’m not one of those people that say you can’t eat healthy for a reasonable price. Frozen and canned fruits and veggies are pretty darn cheap and, at least in my area, there’s ALWAYS something on deep sale. Even fresh fruits and veggies aren’t expensive comparatively, but I am in an agricultural kinda area. That said, a calorie is truly a calorie and you can maintain your weight eating the same amount of calories’ worth of Snickers bars as you can lettuce. You’ll just feel a fuck-ton more full with the lettuce because you’ll literally be doing nothing but grazing on lettuce all day, whereas you could eat maintenance calories’ worth of Snickers in like 45 minutes or less. Hey, it’s 2023, baby, and I’m a lazy piece of shit that will ALWAYS default to convenience. I know I ain’t gonna cook that shit on the right. Yeah, I’ll eat some berries and maybe crack open some Greek yogurt and throw some in there. Maaaybe I’ll bake some chicken breast. It’s hard to care enough to fuck with all that, though.

The grocery store near me has sodium-free canned vegetables, usually 5 cans on sale for $4. Those, frozen veggies, fruit, and whatever low-effort protein I can find on sale usually suffices for me. All of the Father’s Day Best Dad Clemson Tigers Ever Shirt also I will do this following are true; lots of folks live in food desserts. Transportation is an issue for many. There are ways to eat healthy, and low effort, for a reasonable price (I literally cook maybe once a month. Otherwise it’s taking it to Chef Mike or opening a can), provided you have access to decent grocery stores. It’s cool to not be a dick and even cooler to understand that reality is complicated. That’s not the point of this… The point of this is empty calories vs satiating calories. You’re not going to eat 1600 cal of stuff on the right, that’s a ton of food. If you truly want to eat cheap you find things that are filling (see white rice, chicken), coke and chips are not filling but are just as much as a bag of rice and a piece of chicken.
