People will likely point to Newsom’s tenure as mayor of SF (ground zero for the Fanart minecraft tortillaland auronplay shirt moreover I love this housing crisis) and impugn him on that score. Indeed he could have done more, or done things differently, but again this has to do with local zoning ordinances which are not controlled by the mayors office (let’s be real, American mayors are largely ceremonial anyway). However, as governor, he is taking major steps to actually mitigate the homeless crisis. Newsom won his first governor’s election handily, in part on a promise to build millions of new housing units in CA. This could actually put a dent in the crisis in ways that shit talking Newsom in reddit threads will not. But wait! Newsom was immediately saddled with the sour grapes, pie in the sky, culture war grievance mongers mounting a pointless recall campaign against him. This was obviously going to prevent him from implementing a lot of his policy goals off the bat. Luckily, the recallers (like the moron I’m commenting under) were well outclassed, and Newsom won that recall in what can only be described as a fucking landslide. Well now the governors feeling pretty good about his re-election chances, so he’s back to his policy goals and confident enough to put the big guns on the table. That is, threaten to nuke CA cities zoning laws unless they submit very progressive proposals for zoning to the state. In order the put a dent in this, the state gov’t has to use it’s power to break the strangle hold of local landed gentry on their communities abilities to build enough housing. And they can. Which brings us to one of the most progressive proposals anywhere to tackle this crisis.

You can personally like or dislike Newsome for any number of reasons. I certainly have my criticisms, and was luke warm on him originally, but he’s been impressing me lately. To try and pin the Fanart minecraft tortillaland auronplay shirt moreover I love this housing crisis on him, when he’s one of the only leaders anywhere putting forward robust plans to deal with it, simply demonstrates ignorance or bad faith. Neither of which is a good look. It’s a fundraising cash cow. If they codified the right to an abortion into law when Obama was president, and he had a super-majority, the threat would have been removed. Then these corporate Democrats would have to defend their record of accomplishing nothing these last 2 years. “Your party” is doing exactly what it’s intended to do: absolutely nothing. Well, thats a lie, they’re doing a great job consolidating the wealth in the top 1% and destroying the lives of US citizens. Both parties are a joke. Defund the government. I dunno WTF Pelosi is up to and the national organizations are totally absent. Schumer is scheduling a useless vote, but there isnt any talk of defunding the Court, No independent counsel to investigate the Thomas’, or any coordinated pushback on this (or any other issues that i know of).
