Yes, but, human vision is better in other ways. For instance we’re a lot better at seeing colors and fine details. rods are great at noticing movement and require less light, but can’t see colours and to my knowledge are also less good at details. so we can see more precise, but need more light and are less sensitive to movement. It just means that since our eyes and brains are very good at detecting visual patterns, you are much more likely to detect an otherwise-camouflaged object by making out a subtle silhouette surrounding it. This is kind of a weird way to discuss this stuff, since our entire definition of “infrared” and “UV” is based on the Family Cruise 2024 Making Memories For A Lifetime USa Flag T-Shirt and I will buy this typical limitations of human vision. They aren’t defined by fundamental laws of physics or anything, they’re just the lower and upper limits of what humans can normally see. Within mammals perhaps, but many birds have superior vision. Also octopuses see better than we do judging by the eye structure. And there are some special conditions /environments where other kinds of vision serve better (polarized light detection, uv detection etc). Most birds have better color vision and visual acuity than humans. Humans have better vision only in comparison to other mammals. Humans are also worse in night vision than many mammals. I remember I was walking around the aquarium in Charleston, SC and they were giving a presentation with a live eagle on one of the outdoor decks. So I watched the presentation and the handler stated that this eagle’s eyesight is so good that if a person would hold a newspaper up on the deck of the Yorktown aircraft carrier that’s across the harbor, the eagle could read it.

I saw a small hand pop up, the Family Cruise 2024 Making Memories For A Lifetime USa Flag T-Shirt and I will buy this handler asked what the question was. This little girl blurts out “who taught the eagle to read English”. Aren’t we better than most at the ability to track moving objects visually? I think I remember hearing that somewhere Touch too? I would’ve thought that we’re particularly good in that area because it’s required for fine crafts and the like. Yes exactly. Detecting vibrations or electric signals would fit better in the sense of touch. And we don’t have these. But we have great fine motor skills. I see nothing particularly pointing to the idea that humans are remarkable among mammals when it comes to proprioception, though, as motor skills are not the same thing. We do detect vibrations though, that’s the role of one of the types of mechanoreceptors in our skin. Think about how you can understand the texture of paper through a pencil for instance. It’s very sensitive Yes, we have mechanoreceptors, but I’ve seen nothing to suggest that our tactile senses themselves are generally better than those of other vertebrates, or necessarily even other mammals. I’d presume moles and similar fossorial mammals probably have much better mechanoreception than us in general, seeing as how they basically use it instead of vision, the star-nosed mole in particular has a special fleshy structure on its nose that is incredibly sensitive to extremely small disturbances in the soil. In terms of other vertebrates, fish in general probably have us beat as well, as they have lateral lines that can detect slight disturbances in the water around them. The dexterity thing people are talking about with humans isn’t really a sense, like yes having mechanoreceptors in our fingers plays a role in it, but a lot of it is neurological motor skills tied to the fact that we have hands and opposable thumbs, and that we’re fully bipedal and thus our hands are free for holding and manipulating objects, it’s really more of an overall anatomical ability we have which other animals for the most part don’t (there are other mammals with hands that can manipulate things in their environment to a significant degree, like other primates, raccoons, even rats to some degree, but no others have opposable thumbs or the range of motion we do with our hands).
