Computers and other technological advancements certainly gave us more entertainment, but entertainment is but a fraction of what makes life worth living. The truth is, we should feel grateful if we have a safety net of friends and family to fall back on in case catastrophe strikes. And still, if a catastrophe strikes you’re possibly all going to be in the same boat. Katrina was a wake-up call to my family. This country just did not give a fuck about us. 2008, 2014, 2020… I’m supposed to be retired now, but I can’t possibly withdraw my retirement right now, all my investments are in the shitter. The only saving grace for me is I’m 6yrs from retirement from the navy. Pension is okay but damn I’m terrified of what the job market is going to be like. a lot of the homes here are fancy and people drive nice cars too, but there is usually nothing in the inside, they spend all their money on the things you can see from the street view. I was struggling hard before I made a budget and realized how much I was wasting on stupid shit I didn’t really need

A store known for their low prices. I don’t know how people afford children. I truly don’t. And we both have great jobs, i work for the government and have a college degree. I continue to look for less expensive alternatives to my recipes. Say what you want about fancy grocery stores, but when I lived in Japan food actually tasted… Like food. Strawberries that taste like I remember them tasting in the 80s, not kinda-tart water. Lettuce, lettuce has taste! Fish that actually has fish oil in it, beef that has marbling… Basically all the food was just… Quality. Nowadays in America even if you do wanna splurge on food all you can do is pay more for bullshit marketing like Organic produce, unless you have access to a farmer’s market. Local butchers over here unfortunately get the same really low quality feedlot beef that we get at the grocery store. There’s this guy at work who’s raising free roam pigs on his property and they taste like fucking heaven, but he’s hardly producing more than his extended family consumes.
