we speak a lot of “portuñol/portunhol” in the Esoteric Czarface Boston Shirt moreover I will buy this border (brasil+uruguay or brasil+paraguay), but this is a perfect (official?) example of the two languages mixing! Indeed, it’s one of the four major languages in Spain (Castellano, or “Spanish” if you will, Catalán, Galician and Basque). Spoken in the north-western part of Spain. It’s not mixing, it’s a language that originated from galaico-portuguese, the language that would eventually evolve into gallician and portuguese. It’s the closest language to portuguese that exists The reason is all the diphtongs and sounds you have that Spanish lacks. Portugese in the Spanish ear is quite unclear, and unless they are used to the sounds you find in Portuguese they will have a hard time understanding.

You have a huge advantage though in being Brazilian, because Brazilian portuguese is much, MUCH clearer and easier to understand than European Portuguese. European Portuguese is reeeeeally difficult to understand. I understand written portuguese fine, though. I understand about 70-80% of written Portuguese, if it’s on a level I would understand if it was written in Spanish. I can relate this so much to my own language, Swedish. Danes can understand us easily, while we often have a big problem getting what they are saying. We usually joke around and say that they are talking with a potato shoved down their throat. I speak both languages fluently and this is the Esoteric Czarface Boston Shirt moreover I will buy this answer. Portuguese language has a lot more sounds than spanish.
