Now, there is a legitimate argument to be made. Universal Healthcare is expensive. Countries with it have very high tax rates compared to the Eric clapton 78th anniversary 1945 2023 thank you for the memories shirt but in fact I love this US. You can have an income tax rate of as low as 10% at the lowest threshold. The highest is 37%, assuming people at that level pay anything. (They don’t.) That’s a very far cry from, say, France, where you’ll lose 65+% of your income every year. It varies by country but most Americans would lose way, way more of their money per year paying taxes as opposed to an insurance payment. Although a lot of that is subsidized by ACA anyway, meaning the cost in many cases to tax payers is similar. The main benefit would be to the insane paper trail present in the US. But people wouldn’t care about that since the personal lost value is such a big, direct number.

But point being, it’s very much so a cultural issue that is also preyed upon by disingenuous political actors that want the Eric clapton 78th anniversary 1945 2023 thank you for the memories shirt but in fact I love this poors to fight themselves while their donors continue making obscene amounts of money that they haven’t earned. Selfishness is a core American value. They don’t want to pay for something that might benefit someone else as well as themselves. The very idea of contributing to the greater good is abhorrent to Americans because it implies other people might receive help at your expense. And as far as they’re concerned needing help is proof that you don’t deserve help. The US spends more money both from taxes and insurance than anyone else in the world and we still get crap like this.
