Create a species that has consciousness but actively wants to be eaten and will even give you a nice tableside break down of it’s best cuts or what it eats to give you a good meal. Is that actually more ethical? I think it’s debatable whether hunting a wild animal is more ethical or not. I think Douglas Adams was actually mocking our captive meat industry with that bred-for-food example. That is what domesticated animals literally are. Oh yeah! It’s all very tongue in cheek. I think it’s almost more horrifying that it’s bred to understand it’ll be eaten but is also OK with it. Look, if that bothers you (and it should), you may want to reconsider all animal products. Factory farming is beyond cruel.

My brother is quite different. We live in a very sparse province in Canada, as in very few people. So my brother feels quite okay to shoot any cats that go through his yard. Throughout our years together, we have fought and fought about this. Just knife the lobster in the top of the head before they go in pot. Steam them instead of boiling. Taste better. Likewise with crabs. My first “real” job like 15 years ago was at the seafood counter at the grocery store where I had to cook lobsters. Straight out of the tank onto the pan and into the steamer. I guess I didn’t think much about it at the time, but I’m definitely horrified when I think about it now. I amassed a lot of karma doing that shit and I’m still paying for it by continuing to suffer minimum wage poverty. In all seriousness, though, I do enjoy eating both lobster and crab. I won’t go into detail, but I make sure they are dispatched quickly and with respect before going into the pot. I grew up on the ocean and this is how I was taught to do it. I don’t know why would I eat that shit it’s so much work to get the meat out with no bullshit. Literally any other type of meat is 100 times better I’ve been limiting my animal intake for the past few months. I don’t feel the same when I eat chicken or burgers now. I see the whole live chicken and a grazing cow in my mind. It just feels so wrong.
