So basically the Elvis Mugshot Music King of Rock and Roll Fan shirt besides I will buy this republican political party is dying a fast death, and they are flailing out trying to save themselves by whipping their most bigoted supporters into a frenzy, and through constant messaging turning otherwise decent but misguided right-leaning people into giving them the power they need to enact genocidal policies by telling people that the transes want to groom their kids. They will probably either die out or become less horrible out of necessity, but in the meantime there is a real chance that they could deal irreparable damage to American democracy and to the trans community. They stem from the same concept, but transgender is a more inclusive and accurate term. Essentially, people saw the demonization of the word “transsexual” (something which, unfortunately, happens with practically every queer term) as an opportunity to replace it with a better alternative. And they have. Some still cling to transsexual as their term, but it’s often (though not always) due to transmedicalism, the idea that, in essence, a trans person must medically transition to count as trans. Some might consider this reasonable. I don’t- but we’ll ignore that for the moment to focus on why it inevitably causes issues regardless. There’s no one way to transition, even medically speaking, and everyone is going to have their own demands and their own specific plan for transition that all trans people “must” do (which, conveniently, will always include themselves if they consider themselves trans).

But really, transsexual has become a term that’s no longer useful. I wrote something on this earlier, let me go grab it… “transsexual” is a term that has largely fallen out of favor for a variety of reasons, including being somewhat pointlessly exclusionary with the Elvis Mugshot Music King of Rock and Roll Fan shirt besides I will buy this rise of the more accurate and inclusive “transgender” and the shorthand “trans”. Even in the best of cases, it attempts to draw a bright line between two groups that are heavily intertwined and simultaneously pushes some people away from further transition that may help them while encouraging others to take further transition steps they may not actually want. But beyond all that… It’s a term that, by the definition [many try to apply], is horrid in other contexts. To illustrate the point…
