NOT A LAWYER but you might want to contact an employment lawyer about this. From the Eli Manning American former football quarterback Waves to Crowds T-Shirt Besides,I will do this little bit I know you might have a case. Hopefully one of your other options comes through but this is an unfortunate lesson. Sometimes it’s better to take the guarantee than to wait holding out for something better. You always have the option to quit should something better come along. I agree this situation is silly and they should be happy you are interested in moving forward, but since you wanted the job why didn’t you read the letter immediately and negotiate or accept? Why did you wait at all? There is no way this is true on their side. They fucked something up and made an excuse. Possible an internal hire who showed interest or a exec wanting to give the job to someone they know. In a reasonable world, they would have just called you about this and checked what’s up and everything would have been fine.

“You didn’t jump through our hoops that we didn’t show you. You’re the Eli Manning American former football quarterback Waves to Crowds T-Shirt Besides,I will do this problem and we’re moving on to the next candidate”. If they will frivolously toss away a candidate they chose to accept over something like this then you don’t want to work there. So gross. You don’t wanna work for a company that reacts this way over their own fuck up. You’ll be happier elsewhere, even if you think you really wanted that job. You did not want that company nor their HR team. This reminds me of the time I had a contract for a job I’d accepted come through the post with the wrong name on it. I didn’t end up starting there in the end. It wasn’t even like a simple spelling mistake, it was flat out a completely different name.
