In the 40s and 50s, the BBC had their own orchestras that played on the radio live. There was a classical one for the Beethoven stuff and the Light Orchestra, that played more modern dance and show tunes type stuff. Jeff’s roughly the same age as me and would have heard these bands. My dad ended up seeing their merits after looking at it a new way and though he’s still not a fan he finally doesn’t shut off the radio whenever ELO is on so I call it a victory! It wasn’t till a few years ago when we were watching a documentary about ELO and Electric Light Orchestra 50th Anniversary 1970 2020 Signatures shirt sweater was describing how hard Jeff Lynn had to work to get actual full Orchestras to step away from classical music and help him create his catchy rock tunes. Stubborn orchestra musicians were not easy to work with but after his efforts, he was able to pull together a unique, experimental sound that had never been done before. Did they bring the UFO stage for that show? When they came to my town they had used that set the night before so they didn’t bring it.
