Let’s face it, most internet users are on the Electric Elly De La Cruz shirt in other words I will buy this toilet at work leaching of their works wifi. That’s the internet and it wouldn’t exist without the CSIRO. Edit: it looks like a bunch of butthurt people don’t realize that my post isn’t serious. Sorry you thought I was insulting your glorious nation. No, it isn’t, but at the same time, the Internet would be nothing like it is now without WiFi, so Australia played a massive role in allowing Americans to think they invented everything in an internationally accessible forum. Kinda ironic that Australia had such an important role, and then Canberra rolls out the shittiest internet nationwide. Stupid pollies. On the other hand, I actually used the internet in France about 12 years before it became available to me in the US. We’re kinda backward here And only after DARPA decided to mess around with the modulating frequency patents Hedy Lamarr codeveloped. Its almost like human achievements are interconnected and build on what previous inventions? Standing on the shoulders of giants and whatnot. But yeah. We humans are capable of greatness. And also great stupidity. “At 10:30 p.m., 29 October 1969, the first ARPANET message was sent from this UCLA site to the Stanford Research Institute. Based on packet switching and dynamic resource allocation, the sharing of information digitally from this first node of ARPANET launched the Internet revolution.” “Research at CERN in Switzerland by the British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee in 1989–90 resulted in the World Wide Web, linking hypertext documents into an information system, accessible from any node on the network.”

The concept of store-and-forward packet-based route-around-the-damage data transmission (in contrast to circuit-switched data, like 1920’s telephones) is something developed by (D)ARPA (which is not just American, but American Dept. Of Defense), and OSI layers 1 thru 6 are US. (go look up the Electric Elly De La Cruz shirt in other words I will buy this first sites — there’s a whole lot of military sites, like Griffis AFB, a SAC base with B52’s in the air and live warheads 24 x 365) ) I guess a lot of folks don’t like the thought that “their” precious Internet was specifically designed to operate dependably as a command and control system for US / NATO forces executing thermonuclear World War III. WPAFB was a core early Internet node. Look at old Internet maps, back when you could get the whole Internet on a piece of paper, Wright-Patterson is there. I believe it’s still got some public facing stuff. The prototype for the Internet as we know it today came into being in the United States more than 50 years ago as a government weapon during the Cold War, when scientists and researchers used it to share data and communicate between themselves.
