I’m Mexican American and my family preserved a lot of the Electric Elly De LA Cruz Cincinnati Reds shirt and I love this culture. My girlfriend is American, mostly of Irish and German descent, but they do not hold onto any of those traditions from their ancestors. Major differences between our families is that in my family there’s always something going on on weekends, music, dancing, family get togethers, the more the merrier, and we have an ease making friends. In her family, although they value family to some degree, they tend to keep to themselves even though they’re extroverts and the idea of bringing random people to a get together scares them. Holiday celebrations are about the kids and being indoors often watching a classic movie. Can’t take roasting like we do at our family and their sense of fashion is limited. I seem to have more in common with Italians.

With that said, I still enjoy our families and the Electric Elly De LA Cruz Cincinnati Reds shirt and I love this one thing that definitely unites us is our want to socialize and have some drinks. People act like white Americans don’t have culture because they’re literally inculcated in white American culture. That’s why the critique doesn’t make any sense. If you’re here in the United States of America then on some level you are coming into contact with the culture of white American people. We’re also an amalgam of cultures, plural. Native culture (as much as we white people have tried to eradicate it) influences a lot. Same with Spanish/Mexican culture, again we whites rail against the people but gladly accept the cuisine, holidays, language cues, and architecture. Every country that people have emigrated from has contributed to our shared heritage. So it’s kind of hard to see what American culture is. It is one big smoothie of other things all blended together.
