I got my car towed once in Detroit. I was visiting a friend and didn’t notice there was a sign saying you could only park on the Eddie Rosario Leftfielder Baseball Atlanta Card T-Shirt moreover I will buy this OTHER side of the sign. So not only did I get a $50 ticket, but I had to call every fucking tow lot in the city trying to find my car. Then I had to pay the towing fee as well as a fee for them having my car overnight in their parking lot. All said and done it ended up being damn near $600. Before my mother died, I had a conversation with her about her bills, what she owed, savings, etc. She said she had nothing outstanding, except for her gas, electric, etc. She had paid off the house when my dad died, same with her car, and said she had plenty left over. I had to put her in hospice (Medicare Part A), so no help from the government, and it cost me $2300 per week, paid via check. She lasted 2 months in hospice before they transferred her to hospital hospice, where Medicare Part B took over and I got rid of the $2300 gorilla. Cost me $18,400, plus the 1st week deposit, so almost $21K. She passed away after less than a week in hospital hospice, and smartly made everything POD to me, so no probate.

First surprise was that she had only paid for about $1500 for her funeral, even though she told me she had paid for the Eddie Rosario Leftfielder Baseball Atlanta Card T-Shirt moreover I will buy this whole thing. $9K, plus a $2500 fee for opening up the grave to bury her, plus $1500 more for engraving on her tombstone. My wife and I spent the summer cleaning out her house while waiting out our lease. Moved in around Labor Day a few years ago. Second surprise was that she had life insurance, but had (unknownst to me) borrowed against it, so there was a policy of $1740. Third surprise was after a few months had gone by, I get a certified letter from a bank telling me they are going to start foreclosure for non-payment of a loan. Never knew about it, interest and late fees had been piling up, to the tune of $24K. Turned out, she had set up a PO Box and had been sending her mail there for years. I knew nothing of this. After fighting with the bank, I’m still paying off her loan.
