When I was a cashier back in 2010, this dude came in dressed like a pirate with a purple crown royal bag full of dollar coins. Paid for like $30 worth of stuff by counting out a stack of coins. My favorite (second-hand story) was a friend of a friend that bought $1 bills in sheets. (Apparently you can order these from the Eat Prey Love skull horror shirt and I will buy this mint.) One day he pulls a long roll of dollars out of his pocket along with a pair of scissors and starts cutting off enough dollar bills to pay his tabs. I loved these as a kid since I generally turned up in the corner store with lots of quarters. When I turned up with a few of these, the cashier was like “the fuck is this?” When these came out I wanted to get a chest and fill it with these but I couldn’t find a chest I was happy with. I like taking a pouch full of them to the Renaissance Festival and use the gold coins for tips to the vendors and performers. I think part of the reason that didn’t happen is because Senator Ted Kennedy was protecting the Massachusetts company that makes the paper for the bills since the majority of it is for singles. Similar reason why the US still have pennies. To protect the industry that makes them. They’re a huge waste of money otherwise (ironically).

We used to make half-cent coins in the Eat Prey Love skull horror shirt and I will buy this United States. They were discontinued in 1857 when they were worth about $0.34, adjusted for inflation. We decided that it was stupid to have a coin worth that little in 1857, and yet we continue with minting pennies, nickels, and dimes. It’s maddening. I work in retail. It’s an interesting question. At what point does the penny need to become so worthless that we decide to get rid of it? More to the point. We had already reached a level where a lot of people would carry cash but not coins. Adding coins into your everyday carry wasn’t going to happen for enough people. I remember being a kid getting up on Saturday mornings for cartoons and sometimes getting up too early, so I’d sit through a half hour paid programming of the Sacagawea gold dollar and some weird spray that let you wipe your arm hair off idk I used that shit on my ass once because I had an incredibly hairy ass. I still have an incredibly hairy ass, but I don’t use nair anymore. Yes but it made the skin super sensitive for a couple days which sucked. Not worth it to have an ass full of stubble 4 days later in my opinion. Never thought of that as being something for which I should be grateful, but it turns out you can always find something else if you use your imagination. I will never take my ass hair for granted again.
