Saved posts (which after 10+ years on Reddit is a really important resource for me) is way more limited/basic. e.g. all formatting from comments is removed so a long and useful post e.g. with lots of snippets of code or lists or something just ends up as an impossible-to-read jumble of words. There also seems to be a way worse signal/noise ratio. Reddit via RiF or old.reddit.com feels like a clean, curated experience. Via the Easily Distracted by Cats and Books T-Shirt moreover I love this “official” app it was a bit overwhelming. There is so much noise from pushing new subreddits (sorry, “communities”) to stupid avatar things, live chat, notifications etc. I just want to quickly browse the topics I’m interested in FFS. I totally get how for a new, casual user with no previous expectations it’s probably fine, but for someone used to a Reddit that just feels fundamentally different, it’s pretty dismaying. If your on android then 3rd party apps are so much better, miles ahead and some ad free. I use Boost for Android and it’s brilliant. Other recommendations are Reddit Is Fun, Sync, Relay and I did like Joey for Reddit but not as great now

My husband and I moved over to third party after this bug ages ago in which videos wouldn’t play on the Easily Distracted by Cats and Books T-Shirt moreover I love this official app. I’ve enjoyed how responsive the devs have been in my app, a couple of things I’ve wanted have been implemented in my time here. They’re usually also very customizable so you can make it look however you like. The official reddit app was only launched in 2016, so most long time users who joined before then used 3rd party apps to browse on mobile. Honestly, I feel like the official app is fine – yeah, I don’t like the suggested stuff and the ads, but it works okay. Hell, I use Facebook sometimes. I just hate the feeling of essentially being strong armed into using a product, especially on top of it killing several dedicated little developer communities, some of whom were written long before the official app even existed. I only use Apollo for browsing, posting and all Reddit interactions. I will leave if Christian can’t sustain keeping Apollo going.
