I don’t see how anyone could justify this. It’s not like someone was distracted and they thought the Dwight yoakam shirt and I love this child was with the other parent. They were both there! They absolutely left that baby in the car intentionally! My thinking is that maybe someone was supposed to get the baby and take it to the nursery? One of the childcare folks? Don’t know why they would have left the baby anyway. The one thing about these stories (when it happens unintentionally) that’s common is that the parents are exhausted, and there’s some change in routine. It is a big leap though, since both parents were there. tragic. They went to church in separate cars, and even the small-ass church I went to as a kid(roughly 50 members on a heavily attended day) had a daycare. So hypothetical scenario: Parent A usually brings the kid to church and drops them off at the daycare. Parent B arrives later. But today, for whatever reason, Parent A can’t bring the kid and Parent B has to. When Parent B heads to church, they go on autopilot like most people do when following a common routine, and forget the quiet baby in the backseat. They don’t question why the baby isn’t with Parent A, because obviously Parent A dropped the baby off at daycare like always. And Parent A doesn’t question why the baby isn’t with Parent B, because obviously they remembered to drop the baby off at daycare.

Because to any parent, the Dwight yoakam shirt and I love this idea of forgetting your own child is horrendously insane, which makes cases like this(which are terrifying common) all the more heartbreaking. And to make matters worse, when it happens to parent(s) that didn’t intend to kill their child, they get to deal with: the grief of their child dying, the guilt of it being their fault their child died, and the mob of the internet deciding that they chose to murder their child. Maybe they did plan it. Wouldn’t be the first time someone’s intentionally killed their own baby. And if it was intentional, then fuck’em. But chill on the accusations, because if this really was an accident, then they’re going through more than enough grief and stress. Try to imagine how you would feel if this happened to you. Empathy is important to practice.
