A nature reserve with ponds and ducks. Occasionally, kids gathered there to learn how to smoke a joint – that’s before I put up a fake CCTV camera. A small patch of woodland, that deer and occasional dog walkers use, then more houses. Also 11 discarded Christmas trees drectly behind my fence. Back at my old family home, half a dozen or so 25 foot trees Mine backs onto the woods and a small stream which looks lovely but definitely it’s downsides. The woods are filled with poplar trees, so every summer our garden is covered in poplar tree fluff, literally looks like its snowing or we’re trapped in the upside down. Also this fluff is highly flammable, so we’re not allowed a fire pit lmao. And the stream makes house insurance more expensive in case it ever floods :’) There is a 4 hectare section of woodland that backs onto a chunk of farmland. The nearest house would be a kilometre at the back. Don’t know who owns the woodland, I’ve to keep getting the fence line trimmed back. Gives me a nice sheltered garden. Trying to turn large chunks of my garden into a wildflower meadow, saves me from mowing. An alley that you can’t get to because it’s overrun with brambles and Holly. Also present are the carcasses of animals cat has killed. 5 sheep. My neighbour owns land to the side and behind us, but it’s not really big enough for any agricultural rearing. So he has 5 sheep that he seems to do nothing with, apart from allowing his shit dog to chase them.

Note: because of this semi-rural environment, we have had stoats, squirrels, foxes, hedgehogs, mice, pheasants and even a couple deer. Mine backs onto a small woodland, it’s great not being overlooked by relative strangers (they belong to a different street) like I have been in previous houses. No-one ever walks in the woodland (it’s not very big), nothing goes missing from gardens, etc, so I don’t feel the need to replace the fence just yet. My childhood home backed onto a small copse with super tall old growth trees, behind which was a local sports college. It was beautiful. The next house we had backed onto a lovely farmers field, and we had a view of the top of the Severn Bridge from the first floor of the house.
