Which I find fascinating that somehow someone else can put you in a predicament without you even knowing. How that’s legal and upheld I don’t understand. Right. Estate ceases to be. Time share “asset” with 2 year liability belongs to George Santos, or some such fraudster. I can see this being sued over as it’s perpetual damages. Personally wouldn’t wanna be the executor in this case. About to die and want revenge against your family? Buy a timeshare from one of the reselling sites. Put it in your will and refer to it as a “timeshare investment.” You were the brains of the family, they’ll keep it. Reverse timeshares is a pretty good idea. Transfer the ownership to older folks who don’t have a positive net worth and pay them for the trouble. It’s part of the estate. You can refuse the entire inheritance and walk away, but AIUI you can’t just take the assets and ditch the liabilities. The long answer is corporate lobbying bribing politicians to create laws in their favor and now law stopping the people from passing these laws from having a direct vested interest in things like time share companies (or payday loans, or etc.)
