Is there an NPO that arranges things like this? I’ve been in that place and I would love to help clean it in a way that’s sensitive to their state. What she did is nothing short of amazing. Call me pessimistic however, as it’s going to be that messy again in less than a year. Before the pandemic I could at least go out to eat, but then I had to order take out… I accumulated tons of trash and couldn’t get myself to clean up. I was despondent over lost treatment options for my depression (deep rTMS study, psilocybin study) and my place got worse and worse. I then also developed a spine issue which left me unable to walk without falling all over the place and I couldn’t lift my arms over my shoulders. It took months before I got the surgery I needed… my brother and his wife cleaned up my place while I was in the hospital and it made a huge difference when I got back home! I felt less like a broken freak and more like a regular person. That fridge will never smell good again ever. Same with the dishwasher most likely. Get the owner some therapy plz.

The problem is not cleaning but mental health. By simply cleaning for them you have done nothing to address the underlying illness. Hmm… nice of her to do that but it takes more than someone to clean for you to break the cycle. If anything, their behavior is reinforced since they made the mess and someone ended up cleaning it for term. Unless the person is forced to pay for it every time it happens. They’ll start cleaning their own mess (negative reinforcement). Went so often I “break the cycle” abs actually fold and hang up my laundry but guess what happens the very next week? Yep, “the pile” returns That place was truly unhealthy. At the risk of sounding insensitive, I hate how so many people in society create excuses for others. I know you think you are normalizing this for the people whose living situations look like this, but you’re more likely justifying it/enabling them. No one should live like this. I like that they did this, but not how they did this. Maybe it was just for the video but she completely cleaned one area to the last spec without even touching anything else. Like do you know what gonna happen when you clean the rest of it? its gonna get the things you just cleaned dirty. Maybe not that dirty but it would drive me crazy
