“based” as slang, from my understanding as a person who uses it a lot, is like a radical mix of “i agree” and “that’s rad” Like all new slang/idioms it means more than one thing. Mostly its like someone saying “Church”, “Tru dat”, “Awesome”, “You got that right” and so on. Nothing more than a new generation putting their mark on our culture. The internet says that the original meaning came from freebasing cocaine (separating cocaine from its stabilizing salts so it can be smoked). People who did this were called baseheads or based. People who acted like they were on drugs generally began being called based. Brandon McCartney aka “Lil B” heard based being used as a derogatory term and decided to reclaim it in his rap music. He said, “Based means being yourself. Not being scared of what people think about you. Not being afraid to do what you wanna do. Being positive.” And he called himself “the Based God.”
