We will have to agree to disagree here, enjoy exploiting workers from foreign countries because locals dont want to work for such poor conditions and pay. The appeal to au pairs is they get to come to the US with no expenses, don’t have to figure out housing from abroad, for a voluntary 1-2 year gig and they get to take classes and get paid. No one takes this job without wanting it and I can tell you as a parent you can sniff out the ones that aren’t actually interested in the taking care of your kid part pretty easily. 45 hours a week AND a student, that says it all. She should just be a student, or work 20 hours tops. You are bending over backwards to make exploitation sound delightful. 2 classes per week of 3 hours each for 8 weeks. She’s not a college student she’s taking English lessons which is part of why she wanted to apply to the program in the first place. I’m not trying to make it sound delightful, I said very clearly she works hard. I’m just also rejecting the “exploitation” and “quasi slave labor” claims because they’re asinine.
