Yeah an ex of mine asked me to attend a session with her counsellor when we were on the Donovan Mitchell American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers T-Shirt in contrast I will get this rocks. I expected to go in and be blamed for all our problems, but the opposite was true. Turns out she’d been lying to the counsellor about the cause of our issues, and the counsellor basically said she needed to be single for a while until she learned how to be honest with herself. Honestly one of the greatest moments of validation I’ve had. Made me realise I wasn’t always wrong about everything and I did deserve better. Couples therapist here. The answer is yes, though not said so boldly as some of the other comments here. What’s best for the people is not always best for keeping the couple together and that is okay. When my ex-husband and I separated, we went to marriage counseling to see if we could find a way back to each other as we didn’t want to divorce without trying everything reasonable first. She didn’t suggest we break up but she asked questions that got us to realize for ourselves that it was too late.

Although she was a horrible therapist in other ways (like telling me I was bipolar [I’m not at all]), she definitely helped us negotiate our feelings well enough to see through the Donovan Mitchell American professional basketball player for the Cleveland Cavaliers T-Shirt in contrast I will get this hurt and the remaining love to find out what was left. Ethically you should not tell a client to break up. It’s like when you work with people who hoard. If you do the work for them, they will never understand the why of it. They have to do it. If someone is in a DV situation that is 100% different than than people who are attending couples counseling together. Working with a DV victim completely different situation with different stakes (much higher). If you work at the women’s shelter or DV crisis line you will have specialized training in how to help someone not be killed. I used to be a therapist and I often told couples that, barring abuse, most relationships can be saved if both people put in the work and would ask them if they were actually willing to put in the work it would take.
