Sometimes when there are two queens in a hive they make this kind of whistling ‘peep peeep’ sound to each other. It’s the Domantas Sabonis American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings T-Shirt besides I will buy this strangest thing. They do it by vibrating their body against the hive. Basically it’s a bee rap battle and loser has to get the fuck out. If you are a bee keeper you need to find one of the queens and rehouse her or regicide. I’ve learned a new word everyday on reddit this week… I dont remember any of them. But regicide is a cool word. The other was octo something , “someone 80-89 years old”. I dont remember the others… I’ve heard an aggressive hive will sometimes kill a queen that is too passive, so there’s at least one more potential repost title I’ve seen them kill intruders to their hive this way, too. I guess bees generate a lot of heat when they do this. Many many forms of honeybee don’t sting people when they are busy doing something like swarming or tending to queen stuff, simply out, they just don’t think it’s worth the energy and iirc they can only sting once before dying depending on the species. In fact most insect bites, barring carnivorous ones, result from insects thinking they are going to get smushed, either in a shirt, or in a glove, or just too close to somebody who is moving threateningly around them. They panic, stress out, and then sting people. Was actually thinking this tbh, too busy and not under any threat, but… how they are getting rolled around, I’ve been stung for less

I got stung by an asian giant hornet last year – it flew near my friend, he “batted” it away directly at me, the Domantas Sabonis American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings T-Shirt besides I will buy this fucker yolo’d straight at my hand and stung me on my knuckle. NOT a pleasant experience, do not recommend. Correct. In the US, we have Africanized or “killer” bees which are much more aggressive. While normal bees, when upset, might follow you for 10 feet or so, these Africanized may follow you for 100 feet or more. When new queens form, after a couple of weeks they will leave the hive to go mate with drones. Drones somehow have meeting spots where they will fly to from various hives in the area and just wait for a queen to come around. When a new queen makes it to the area, the drones will race to go and mate with her, which injects their semen into the queen. Afterwards, their testicles explode with an audible pop and they fall dead. Their semen will stay with the queen for life, though. The new queen will then return home and begin laying eggs using the sperm from the drones she mated with. If one of the drones she mated with happened to be from an Africanized hive, their dna will start to spread throughout the hive as eggs are laid and hatched. This is when you’ll start seeing more of that aggressive behavior.
