I had the Doctor of Dragons Shirt Besides,I will do this same thing happen to me. A monthlong stay in London cancelled three weeks beforehand. Had to find a new place and it was twice the price. I know is frustrating but Airbnb in just the middle man between hosts and guests. They have no power to force a host to keep the booking. Hosts are now penalized if they cancel but Airbnb can’t do more that that. Air bnb makes money. They are getting paid. They are the connection between the two but their job is to make the connection and see it through, in my opinion. If there are obstacles, air bnb should be required to handle them accordingly. That’s what they are being paid for. Yeah I agree with this take, if they want to maintain the integrity of their booking system then they need to do this. They’ve lost a lot of credibility in my books for really not covering you in these instances so I just lean towards hotels now.

I get it, you can’t force a host to take you and I don’t believe they should be forced to. If I’m booking an AirBnB months in advance, and then based on the Doctor of Dragons Shirt Besides,I will do this fact that I’ve secured that booking also filling in flights and other activities, I have to have some security that I can rely on that booking or have an equivalent place to stay. If AirBnB can’t provide that then I’m just going somewhere else. No they don’t make up the gap price. They will give you an auto credit but you still have to pay the difference. They COULD make up the gap, though. They can’t stop the host from cancelling but they can ensure the guest gets the same rate elsewhere. They choose not to. Airbnb has pros and cons; sometimes I use it qnd sometimes book hotels. But I thought by now every regular user of Airbnb was aware of the risk of a host cancellation, right up to arrival day. On my most recent trip, i stayed in Airbnbs in Baltimore and near DC. But i also booked hotels that could be cancelled up to the day before. You should never rely on Airbnb as the only option.
