Eh. If I felt like I wanted to do it I’d go to it. We would all gather as a group when somebody left to go out drinking and not include management. Some idiot fucked it up and invited management once and ruined the Divisional Kansas City Chiefs vs Cleveland Browns shirt moreover I love this whole tradition. Everyone hated the guy and he still showed up lol. If I didn’t want to go I’d say I appreciate the gesture but I just want to go quietly and wish to forego the lunch. We do farewell lunches here but it’s always the same shitty food I’d rather just go get something solo to celebrate. My buddy did a “I’m retired” after 30 years. Said I don’t want a party, I’m gone in 2 weeks, come say goodbye if you want. We were fine with that, and he was a great man. I wouldn’t do a lunch or farewell thing. It’s uncomfortable to me. People will say “you have to let ppl say goodbye” but this isn’t about them. Do what you want and say bye to who you want to say bye to

Yeah just say you want it to be low key and maybe if your boss is cool go for a coffee with just them as a farewell. I did it after leaving a job that I was at for 9 years. Place was toxic as shit and expected me to put it before my Divisional Kansas City Chiefs vs Cleveland Browns shirt moreover I love this family. I declined a farewell lunch for similar reasons at a similar tenure length. It wasn’t a big deal like some other comments are making it to be. Decline it if you want to and move on, don’t worry too much Take as much from them as you can on your way out. That directive includes a free lunch. But if you don’t want to waste any more breath on small chat with coworkers, energy on seeing who shows up / who doesn’t, then decline. Your time is valuable, don’t feel obligated.
