Anyway, Biden will do what he will do, and nobody will really be happy. Most people are in favor of forgiving student loan debt just like most people support medicare for all. The problem is in the details. Why bother forgiving student loan debt when the problem still exists in the first place? Are we going to have this same discussion next year or in 5 years for the next group of people who irresponsibly took out student loans with no feasible way to repay them?

It’s absurd that we should forgive all student loan debt without any questions. The vast majority of people who have student loan debt but also obtained a degree likely don’t need forgiveness. Those who are pursuing graduate or higher level education also likely don’t need it as these people actually have their degree and should be able to repay it on their own. Really, the only people who should need assistance with this are those who attempted to get a degree and didn’t or those who were taken advantage of with predatory schools. Just wipe out 10-25k and pass legislation to solve this problem so it doesn’t happen again. If after the problem is solved and people need more debt relieved, then explore it then. But we’re just going to be here a couple years from now with another group of people who made irresponsible choices and we can’t just keep refunding debt when people start college and decide they aren’t going to finish. Go to a community college and get an AA for $10k ffs.
