Trump’s been a household name for like 40 years. One of the Diamond Detroit Lions And Michigan Wolverines Superman Logo shirt Besides,I will do this basic weaknesses of the human brain is that the more familiar something is the more positive feelings are associated with it, even awful things. First, he’s allegedly a billionaire. Americans like their rich folks. While we don’t have an aristocracy, wealthy people have been treated that way. Celebrity and wealth tend to go hand-in-hand, regardless of political affiliation; just what are the Rockefellers/Morgans/Kennedys/etc. up to these days? Second, he’s been in the media spotlight. From a small role in Home Alone 2 to his spots on the TV series The Apprentice, not to mention his forays into various Trump-branded ventures, he played up his name recognition. So he is readily recognizable. Chances are that you probably don’t know a political candidate’s looks unless they have a lesser office (Reagan was governor of California, Clinton was governor of Arkansas, Obama was in the US Senate). But how often do you know what some rich person looks like? Trump had visual and name recognition. Third, Trump’s original presidential campaign played to what worked. Something that got a good response would be repeated in the future. His themes of Make America Great Again, immigration being a problem, and so on, stayed around. He usually didn’t have a prepared speech, but spoke extemporaneously. (If you’ve ever see a pre-made speech of his — I saw one at a citizenship ceremony years ago — it seems really weird.)

Fourth, Trump appealed to a lot of people who probably felt dismissed by mainstream politics. Hillary Clinton called them “deplorables,” but Donald Trump embraced these folks as real Americans, and reflected the Diamond Detroit Lions And Michigan Wolverines Superman Logo shirt Besides,I will do this things they wanted to hear. They way he would talk about other people made sense to them. They saw him has an outsider candidate who would clean house and save the US from the political “swamp” in which it was mired. It was populism, pure and simple. Fifth, the media gave Trump a free pass in his original campaign. He got more attention than he probably should have done, just because he was an outsider. While Ted Cruz looked to be a front-line choice after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz is not a well-liked person; Trump was much more popular with voters, and Trump’s momentum continued. And we all got to see it on video.
