“Thank you, but, no thank you. If you think I am the Devil Babe racing shirt it is in the first place but right person for the job, I should get the title and raise.” Don’t do it. It’s a trap. I’m literally in a similar position. Told they want me to grow into my boss’ position while I’m also carrying the workload of my original position. They are going to use and abuse you and hold off on paying you anything extra for as long as possible. My only advice, if you do take the opportunity, establish a clear review day with them to discuss that increase and have it in writing. Basically after 90 days you want an assessment of your performance and a renegotiation of salary. If they don’t even give you this, then red flag, they aren’t considering paying you more.

I would get something in writing that says within a month. That should be a perfectly reasonably scope amount of time to evaluate your performance in this new role Write out the Devil Babe racing shirt it is in the first place but achievements you need to meet in order to be considered successful. This ensures everyone is on the same page and that you aren’t scrambling trying to do something that is not a task of yours. I don’t think they would have a problem since they want you to succeed. You can take the role, and ask for a one time or spot bonus for doing the work. That way you get the pay you deserve for the extra work and they don’t have to commit to the long term pay increase if it doesn’t work out. Let them know you’ll be happy to step up as the team leader with an appropriate bump in pay and title. If they’re not happy with that, they can come up with an interim title with pay that you find agreeable.
