I was talking to a friend the Dennis Smith American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets T-Shirt besides I will buy this other day about things we do when we’re feeling down. She mentioned some of her coping mechanisms and I mentioned that when I’m down, feeling insecure or bored I like to do my makeup. (Basically anything self care: take a nice bath, face mask, light a candle and meditate, do my hair, journal, get my nails done ect). I know plenty of women who do this because it’s nice to refresh your look or just if your bored at home. It’s fun and creative to me. But they judged me and called me sad. I thought we were having a nice heart to heart but instead I was judged for liking makeup and she called me sad in a belittling way. :/ It’s not that deep but it did hurt a little and now I feel a but pathetic for liking makeup. Is it so bad to enjoy doing glam/cosplay stuff. This same friend is the type of person to cut and dye their hair and get permanent tatoos as a coping mechanism. Not that tattoos are bad but at least makeup isn’t permanent yanoe. makeup is one of my talents. I enjoy doing it on others and myself to help ppl feel good about themselves for their special day or party. I thought they were my friend and understood this and saw a deeper side to me and my intellect, but now I think they just see me as a stupid girly girl.vYour friend doesn’t sound like much of a friend, tbh, and sounds like a “not like other girls” type. Which is sad, and I feel bad that she’s decided that things associated with women are lesser, because internalized misogyny is a hell of a drug.

AMAB person who battled Dysphoria since I was a kid. My coping mechanism was makeup and ‘dressing up’. That was then. Now I’m out and about, having the Dennis Smith American professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets T-Shirt besides I will buy this time of my life. I’m going out on a limb and guessing she’s a pick me type. Someone who puts other women down for liking feminine things. Either way she’s not a good friend. My self care also includes spa day / makeup. That girl doesn’t sound like a friend at all. It’s sad to insult people bc you don’t agree with a perfectly healthy hobby. I wouldn’t give her too much more of my time. Yeah, I’ve officially cut them out my life becasue they used to belittle me a lot so now I’m free. Turn that frown upside down 🙂 Yep. You’ve made room for healthy reciprocal friends now. Even if they don’t share your interest you can still support and build each other up! I’ve had a couple of friends like that. You’re better off without them. It’s funny when they keep trying to get in contact after I’ve cut ties and I’m like, why? Nobody to push down to make yourself feel better? Good for you! Your friend is being ridiculous and mean. Nothing wrong with liking makeup? When I’m bored or having a bad day, taking care of myself and putting on a cute outfit with some nice makeup always cheers me up. Hey OP! I think I’ve seen a post of yours previously. You referenced some friend(s) saying something not so nice before. I’m very sorry that someone you consider a friend would talk to you like that. They don’t sound like positive influences to you or your self esteem. You are valid in your interests and coping mechanisms. You deserve to feel secure in yourself and what you enjoy doing in your free time. With all due respect, fuck ‘em. Enjoy what you want. You deserve better.
