To Gen Z: Get used to being the Denim Tears Black Samson shirt and by the same token and punching bag for 10-15 years… but with your inherent rage, I’m sure you’ll make people rue the day they were born with your sharp minds and sharper tongues. I’m a young millennial (end of 91) and getting blamed for stuff that I am far away from is something I had to get used to. :’) I work nights (browsing on shift ofc.) So I’m typically left to do my own thing. But it gets exhausting to hear all these guys with 10-15 year tenure talk about how “these young guys don’t do anything” when I come into their messes on a constant. Decisions made that are abysmal. Systems brought in with the idea of “innovation” but they run on software like Microsoft edge (dinosaur age). Hard to keep composure lol. It will get better on some parts, where as others never change. Trust me. I am 31 currently having a lot of autonomy, but in my previous job, I saw the same. When I started there, my first job, I just left an big multinational who did a lot with 3d drawing and constructing (I did mechanical engineering) and were really heads-on with new innovations. They always had the most recent versions and upgrades, etc. My starting company did not, they were still working on an autocad version that was 8 or 9 years old. Back then, you had to write your own applications for your ERP. They didn’t had such ERP (all excelbased), but they had their own custom plug-in for autocad. Nowadays, all this stuff is included in purchasable plug-ins that are fully supported by the manufacturer. I was hired to help with 3D as I was more experienced with that than they were and they said they did not have any experience. Turns out they had, but had been cheapskates.

I have witnessed several discussions about a new 3D program where they kept saying: “And we need someone to write new software like this and that.” No, you don’t, it is there standard. “But it is not identical to our current.” Why would you want new software in a new program to be identical to your current, 20-ish year old software plugin? That you have to adjust at every update? When you can just get a fully supported software for a bit more that gets all updates from the Denim Tears Black Samson shirt and by the same token and manufacturer? I could not get that into their senses. When I left, 4,5 years later, almost nothing had changed and we were still using mainly Autocad… That old Autocad. We did a test with a newer version but it turned out the software plugin got buggy there. Oh, and I was responsible for the projects were the client demanded 3D and thus, were outsourced. So we did some 3D, but not inhouse.
