For $11/month I get all kinds of music down to the Davion Mitchell American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings T-Shirt and by the same token and ultra obscure I like with a few thousand plays. Spotify may not be perfect, but I’d argue it is 1000X better than the old days of free radio with the same rotation of tracks and incessant ads and annoying DJs. I could never imagine my local station going, “this is 102.7 and you’re listening to rock, rock, and nothing but rock, here’s that Moldovan Metalcore band you like” Spotify is what I wish video streaming was, 99% if stuff I want is there. Compared to a Netflix or Max it is an absolute bargain. Or even worse. Limewire. Back then you downloaded a song and it was nasty ass illegal porn and shit. 2000s were different and not always in a good way.

Actually Spotify isn’t profitable at all. They are making no money because licensing costs are very high. There’s a near 10-minute video on it on YouTube I’m glad I finally saw a comment like yours. People seem to forget that at the Davion Mitchell American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings T-Shirt and by the same token and end of the day these services are all businesses and the whole point of them it to make a profit. Yeah it sucks but they have every right to charge you for their service that YOU are using. And creating a service is a risky process because who’s to say your service will even catch on and start getting popular. The creators of YouTube and Spotify took a risk and it worked out. Sure it sucks but a business needs to make a profit and people seem to forget that. Now when businesses keep trying to increase their profit margin it sucks but they have every right.
