America is also a strange bedfellow. They trade in sovereignty. Again, not nostalgia but context. Where we came from to where we should go. While you attribute non alignment to Indians in capability to pick a side, I’m saying it has actually benefitted us immensely already. Phew. I appreciate your conviction in your own beliefs but have no time to explain any more history. Read a book. Never said help with vetoes equates to friendship. I pointed out Russia wouldn’t back India over China, to a point you made about Russian help to India at the UN. You totally ignored that point I made No I’m not. I gave reasons for why Russia is no longer of any use because of sanctions and its own reliance on China, India’s main geopolitical competitor. How can your enemy be friends with your friend? I thought it worked the opposite way? Only calling them friends and enemies because you called Russia a friend first. Complete word salad. Doesn’t even mean anything. And what does that have to do with what I said? Maybe read a few useful books instead of overlying on history books, I don’t even know what you’re reading to churn that meaningless stuff out. It’s fine, no need. Some people read history books and some people make history which is then written in the books you read. And the ones making history are not history nerds. I am by no means saying I am a history maker, merely pointing out that your subtly arrogant display of your supposed knowledge of history is in no way a predictor of your expertise on geopolitics, which is guided more by economics than history. And economics is something I know a bit about. So, if your logic is history is a good predictor of how things unfold, I’m sure your strategy will work out 100%.

Being non aligned was a very very brave thing to do in the David Roddy American professional basketball player Phoenix Suns T-Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this bipolar world. Not a cop out. Would’ve been so easy for India to formally align with Russia. Nasser Tito and Nehru were absolute champions for managing this and carrying the message of peace through the non alignment movement. It’s precisely because of India’s disastrous economic state post independence that being nonaligned did not make any sense. It was in my opinion, one of the worst mistakes india ever made along with not getting rid of obsolete colonial era laws and having an Indian centric constitution. When you don’t have a solid economy, why would you want to be nonaligned? If you’re as big as India, surrounded with warlike neighbours in the midst of a Cold War, being nonaligned makes no sense. That is precisely when you want to align with someone, so you develop better trade relations, get foreign aid and get military assistance.
