Helps that state and private companies are removing “degree” requirements from jobs that actually do not require them. Or made an informed decision and go do a trade skill which may pay for your education and more income then any degree will unless you go for a master’s. I agree. My loans are paid off and I’m fine with loan forgiveness. Although what I would really like to see is a federal and state investment in education so that this crisis doesn’t perpetuate. Preferably both of those things. The problem is that America isn’t a society, it’s a business. It’s an entire country that hasn’t just internalized ‘fuck you got mine’ but made it part of its identity. If your college degree doesn’t have enough value for you to pay it off, it certainly doesn’t have enough value for me to pay it off. I had a board shop in a major metropolitan city for 25 years and they were certain time periods it I knew I had to schedule extra help. One of those time periods was the beginning of the semester of the University when people got their student loans. It was a great increase in sales for me…… Just let them file for bankruptcy like most other loans. It’s not about people who already paid their loans, it’s about those who took out loans to start a business. How can you forgive one without forgiving the other? Let student loan holders file for bankruptcy, that’s the only equitable solution. I have a bachelor’s and my wife has bachelor’s and getting her doctorate, all paid with cash over a longer period of time and both working and doing school full time. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. I’ll be going back for my MBA when my wife graduates, but even if it doesn’t apply to me. It still support it. A smarter population leads to a better population. Sadly I don’t see this fixing anything without congressional support to fix the system. Biden can forgive the loans but he can’t create legislation to fix the system. That’s on Congress.
