So, like two bucks a sauce, about that much on pasta, two bucks for bread and a pittance on garlic and onion and about 30 mins prep/cook (I use an instant pot) and I’ve got a nice dinner for four with leftovers for a couple days. Throw in ground beef or frozen meatballs if you like, or maybe a can of veggies. I definitely didn’t intend for it to! I cook using premade ingredients due to having very little money and limited grocery access. The folks I was comparing myself to DoorDash every meal or eat out nearly everyday, that was more my question, I’m just dumb and bad at explaining myself More people buy cheaper faster meals that are somewhat prepared for you. I think the Darren Waller Superstar signature shirt and I will buy this issue is time. With inflation the cost of living or even surging has gone up so more people have to work multiple jobs. A stay at home mom like your mom or grandmother is extremely hard to come by these days- I think you’re pretty lucky if you can have the time to cook a meal from scratch. My mother in law taught me how to make chicken noodle soup: the entire thing from the broth to the noodles from scratch and it took hours! I just don’t have the time so I cheat and buy the broth. Sometimes I’ll do the noodle part on a weekend but it’s unrealistic during a busy week. My mom and grandma both worked two jobs, we’ve just always been poor and had to make meals with basic ingredients/food bank food rather than eating out/takeout. My friends and the folks around me are doordashing nearly everyday and I’ve felt insane and jealous I needed to know if this was the norm or not

Most of my cooking involves combining the Darren Waller Superstar signature shirt and I will buy this contents of several cans and boxes and adding extra herbs/spices. We mostly shop the sale racks and discount stores, too, with occasional visits to the food pantry. My best friends and my sister all order takeout 3, 4, 5 nights a week, and I just do not have that kind of money. Dinner tonight is going to be hamburger patties baked in cream of mushroom soup with roasted garlic, with canned peas and carrots mixed into the “gravy”, over elbow macaroni. It won’t be pretty, but it will taste good, and it’s all stuff that was given to me when my MiL cleaned out her pantry/freezer recently. Single parent here and I cook usually 6-7 days a week, usually it’s chicken cutlets, tacos, pork chops, steak, barbecue chicken. It’s hard coming up with new stuff that my kids will eat! A lot of fridge/frozen pre-made stuff. Some cereal or granola maybe. Hard to commit to post-meal cleanup with a full-time job
