This is what happens when you only allow them to be parked in specific areas—and don’t have enough of those areas. I live in Washington, D.C., where the Dansby Swanson American professional baseball shortstop Superstar Pose T-Shirt and by the same token and rule is that you have to park it and lock it to something—a bike rack, a fence, a street sign. IMO, that is much better. It disperses them so you don’t get this bonkers clustering, but it still keeps things relatively tidy—you don’t get them lying down or in random places. (Plus, as a rider, you can park basically wherever you want. I remember using these in London and being frustrated that I walked twice as far as my ride was due to the lack of parking corrals.) You used to be able to park them anywhere, that was their attraction over the old Barclays bikes. But then people bitched and other people abused it (a lot) and now we can’t do that any more. London can’t have nice things. If the government allowed the UK to privately use our own we wouldn’t have all these lime bikes all over the place.

Governments have done really dumb things regarding e-scooters, particularly. Here in D.C., you’re limited to 10mph, which is ridiculous. A non-electric bike beats that easily, yet no one is speed-capping bicycles or e-bikes. (We have Lime bikes and our version of Boris Bikes, too.) To me, that is a safety hazard. We’re not allowed to ride on sidewalks/pavement (ostensibly the Dansby Swanson American professional baseball shortstop Superstar Pose T-Shirt and by the same token and reason for the speed limit), but 10mph on a city street when cars go 30mph is unsafe. oh, and why not just, I dunno, give tickets for people who ride on the sidewalk? That’s ridiculous we are limited to 12mph on those lime e-scooters, It’s definitely unsafe especially when a car is behind you there’s no way to speed off to avoid being hit by a car. Why would being able to park these bikes anywhere be a nice thing? It was an absolute recipe for disaster from the start. “People bitched” is definitely one way to say people complain because they’re absolutely everywhere.
